Xbox had a deal with Sega since Sega sank on its consoles, which is why there are so many overlooked Sega games on it. Xbox came fairly close to being backward compatible to the Dreamcast.

Funny story, Xbox was going to have dreamcast backwards compatibility. The only thing holding it back was that Sega wanted to keep the Seganet features on their games.
Microsoft said no, because it turns out, you're wrong.
Seganet was very different than XBL. XBL was built for DSL connections from the ground up, and they charged users to get good servers. Seganet was mostly used through dial-up, and actually doubled as a dial-up ISP. If you got a Seganet ISP subscription for a certain amount of months, you got a free Dreamcast.

Was worth every penny. It also ended up being my first set top box when I learned how transfer video files to it via FTP.

At one point you could buy an Xbox for $200, soft-mod it, and then install Debian Linux on it and use it as a desktop PC via the VGA adapter and some home-made USB adapters.
For the time period this was easily the best performance/cost ratio you'd get out of buying a new PC.
I did this at one point in order to play M.U.G.E.N. on my xbox

Everybody always mocked the size of the Xbox but I always thought it was a lame joke since.
1. It's about the same size as a VCR (especially older ones).
2. It doesn't really matter if it's a little bigger than a PS2 since all it does is sit on a shelf. It's not like it's a portable. And if you did want to take it somewhere it still fit in a backpack.

The xbox was actually more powerful than my desktop PC at the time, which was still a Pentium II box.
Portability and convenience were also factors. It wasn't as easy to hook up a PC to a TV at the time. And setting up emulators with front-ends that were controller friendly was complicated.
Looking back I could have probably rigged something together that was superior, but I didn't know then what I know now.

Great game. Campaign was fun and the multiplayer was surprisingly awesome. Especially the mode with waves of enemies and the mode with control points that make auto-attacking enemies.

it honestly isnt THAT good. The combat is a bit too shallow, and the overall gameplay is a very tiny bit repetitive. The challenge is satisfying. The bosses arent that cool as i hoped them to be. Its still a 9/10. But not a top 10 game of all time like many people claim.
