Yeah /tg/ is great for that. Most will recommend the Gotrek and Felix series but do yourself a favor and skip it. The writing is horrific and the title characters are the textbook definitions of Gary Stus.
Instead I recommend the book "The Burning Shore" by Robert Earl. He took the historical "Discovery and Conquest of Mexico", a first person history by one of Cortez' conquistadors, and added Fantasy elements. Super good, though the rest of the series i young adult crap

Guard earlygame is all you really have to worry about, you need those upgrades and you need them now. Once the guard get going it becomes an unstoppable train of bodies and tanks, oh those glorious tanks.
Guard just needs to survive long enough to get upgrades and then you'll graduate from laserpointer to SHATTER THEIR SKY.
Commissars will keep the troops in line, get them get a lot of them for those shit situations and for the damage boost.

I'm not totally up to date with current fluff. I always felt that the ork psychic thing could make a very unreliable piece of equipment basically functional, but not turn something outright unusable into a functioning machine. Hence why mekboyz are needed to actually build stuff.

They go to the "Chaos" warp. FTL requires 3 things in 40k.
- A special psyker called a Navigator. They have a warp eye that allows them to see currents in the warp. You can jump without one but it's riskier, less accurate and mostly restricted to short distances/well known and stable routes.
- A Geller field. This stops the daemons getting in.
- A Warp drive this gets you into the warp in the first place.

Chaos Undivided gets interesting, where the Marines literally bend the Daemons to their will through witchcraft not too dissimilar from what the Ordo Hereticus does.
Most important of all is that compared to an ordinary human, a Chaos Marine is no more valuable than anyone else in the eyes of the chaos gods. Hell - a Titan pilot is faaar more valuable if you think about it, though they normally end up daemonkin.

Chaos Marines are not demons, but rather Space Marine Legionnaires who turned to Chaos with their Primarchs during the period of the Horus Heresy. Daemons exist in the Warp after it was fucked and serve a particular Chaos God (Tzeentch, Khorne, Nurgle, and Slaaneshranked from best to worst. Fuck Slaanesh man, I wish Tzeentch got more representation in the vidya). The Chaos Marines follow this trend, usually pledging allegiance to a certain Chaos God for their blessings, unless of course you are Abaddon (Armsbaddon baby) and worship all of them as Chaos Undivided so you can str8 fuck the Imperium of Man by initating THIRTEEN Black Crusades.

To give the wargear selection more variety, Relic included some very famous equipment from practically everyone in the Blood Raven armory. They also added flavor explaining how the BR acquired it, and almost all of them are dubious. Even those that read plainly, when put alongside the other, start to suggest that they were stolen. The Eldar are physically superior to humans in pretty much every way, (spesh muhreens are no longer humans) and are all innate psykers, unlike humans. The Eldar move so fast that they seem like blurs to human eyes, have super fast metabolism, are extremely long lived and they also think far faster than humans do, and can feel far greater scope of emotions than humans can.
And that's not even touching the superiority of their technology.
