Exactly. Dragon Age Origins was one of my favorite games, and I actually liked the gay characters in it because it was kind of fresh and interesting, they were a bit ham-fisted at times but it wasn't bad. It did add to their character. Now that it's so forced and sloppy it only serves to break my immersion and make me bitter. Hell, the amount it's being pushed now has retro-actively damaged my enjoyment of the game. I doubt I could replay it now without cringing.
I think Erika's trans twist was fucking great. It added an interesting dynamic to the whole group what with Erik being their old buddy and all that, deepened the lore of the game with only men receiving dreams, and was hinted at the whole time without being in your face. That's how you do it right. Don't force it, don't push it, just put it in if it fits and write it around your story.

This game was pretty addicting but it sapped me after awhile. Golded all of normal then attempted to gold all of hard but gave up once I got the ice block stages. Hard was just too hard for me. Might have kept at it if playing the stages from your cellphone allowed you to fucking save after every stage instead of expecting you to go through the entire night.
Because it's better than outright stating it as the first thing she/he says, because then it would be pandering to a specific audience. The writers handled her pretty well. first you get to know her as a person and then, after you spent enough time with that person you find out that she's trans. Because of this her personality doesn't revolve around the fact that she's a guy. Compare that to beamdogs amateur writing where the dialogue for one specific character was to press the writer's agenda first, and make an actual character second, and you'll start to see that Atlus is actually pretty good in the writing department.

I kind feel like that's the right way to play Catherine. Blind, one playthrough, be completely honest with yourself and the game when it asks you questions.
