Start crafting shit rather than selling just treasures and items from the dungeon and guild.
Also, don't try to get as much money as possible. Instead, try to get combos to raise your merchant level..

Anyway, I just finished playing around with the end game stuff after getting bored with it. I just had so much money it stopped being fun. Maybe I will try the hell mode or whatever and see how far I can get.

>private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit

You don't have this in the game. Means of production is restricted to the guilds, as are purchases and sales. There is no free trade in Recettear. The game does not have capitalism.
>>
>>336861597
Pretty much. The dungeons are actually much less profitable than just buying whatever's on sale and selling it when the price goes up. I didn't bother with them until I had paid off the debt and had infinite money to spend on gear and food
>>
>>336860643
lol, you dont get it do you. you could sell a 1 gold item for 500% its cost, and make 499 gold. or

you could sell the 10,000 gold shield your adventurer who had actual gear and could actually survive hard loot dungeons, for 115%, or, 11500

hmmm, lets see, thats, 499 verse....11,000.

the GEAR the fighter/adventurer wears, determines the loot he brings back. if he`s bring just pennies back, go ahead, steal those pennies...

Nethack is fine for what it is. It's not my cup of tea, but I can respect it and people who enjoy the game.

The thing about Recettear is that it's not a game where you do a quick run, die and try again with minimal progression between runs. It was supposed to be a RPG.

First of all, the progression in most rogue-likes or games with those elements is generally helpful, but not crucial for your success.
In Recettear, it is. There's no way you'll pay your debt in your first run, And you can't even call it a run. It's like you crank some 10-20h in a game, only for it to simply nuke your save and throw you a bone for consolation, expecting you to do everything again.

It's one of the most ridiculous instances of grinding I've ever seen. And the game doesn't need that. It would be perfectly lengthy without this bullshit, and it could even be balanced arround the concept of a continuous, incremental progression, like, you know, every other RPG in existence.

It's a GREAT game doomed because one single, yet fundamental flaw.

I like to Jew people by night, but I also enjoy slaying monsters by day. However, I remember trying to play Recettear at some point and running out of Dungeons. Like, I finished the forest (which I think was only the second location) and yet no new location appeared.

Did I just have to survive for a bit longer after that royal loli bitch showed up? I think I usually went bankrupt soon after.

>>336868000
An item worth 1 gold sold at 500% value would be sold for 5 gold, meaning a profit of 4 gold. If you mean it was worth 100 gold and you bought it for 1% of it's value then sold it for 500% of that value, it would indeed be 500 - 1 for a profit of 499 gold. Just some confusion.

>>
>>336868538
I'm not arguing you're wrong. I saying it doesn't matter.

Intuitively, the game presents itself as an action RPG dungeon crawler where you have to sell the loot you find in dungeons with a certain profit margin from its base value to complete a timed objective.

Also intuitively, by the rules the game introduces you, it's impossible not to fail for the first time you play the game because the montly due increases much faster than your ability to loot better shit, and you end up losing several hours of progress. Even if for the sake of learning from your mistakes, that's RIDICULOUSLY punishing.

You could argue it's my fault that I didn't realize the "correct way" of making as much money as humanly possible, but by that point I'll gladly admit that and my argument becomes aganist such an obnoxious design choice in the first place.

It's punishing because even by doing that you still fail miserably, royally, without no way of avoiding it.

Knowing this kind of information, it's easy to do everything right. And I'm not talking only about knowing that the mechanic exists, but how effective/abusive it is.

But playing the game for the first time, you'll probably spend most of your time figuring shit out, testing what works and what doesn't. And before you figure out that apparently there's only one way to do things right, you'll probably lose.

>There's no way you'll pay your debt in your first run, And you can't even call it a run.

What the fuck. I left to use the toilet in the other room, and I come back to see this shit on my screen.

I played the game by selling everything at a flat 115% profit margin (adjusting by 3% depending on the asshole who walked in), buying at 66%, and following the market inflations and crashes, and I hit all of my weekly quotas by at least 133% every week. On the last week I made 800,000 in only 2 days. And in case you haven't figured it out, dungeon raids are a complete waste of time.

I was convinced that everyone that hyped up Recettear as a deep capitalism game was full of shit. I can maybe understand failing the last week, but failing before that is a sign of retardation, especially since there's tutorials that show you interactively how to get shit done.

Recettear would be perfect for Middle School and perhaps late-Elementary School kids as a sort of introduction to concepts they'll learn more about in High School.

[1] Supply and Demand means that a greater desire for something (which depends on the person and their circumstance) means people are willing to pay more, and vice versa. Kids learn about this pretty early on but I don't think they are presented with many examples of it in action. This also ties into [2] Bargaining, where one party can talk the asking price up or down. This could be used as a starting point for all sorts of discussion on [3] Psychology, how to talk to people, and the tricks marketers and stores use to entice people (this is some pretty important stuff to know these days). Finally, it could introduce the concept of [4] Bartering. This is not something people do much of anymore since they just buy things in a store for a set price so it would most likely be an eye-opener for them. I don't remember what year percents are typically introduced but you may want to make sure they understand how those work first. But if not, [5] Percentages could be the first thing you teach them since Recettear clearly shows the price as you scale the percentage up and down.

Sound good?

You're missing my point. And this sums up pretty well:

>And in case you haven't figured it out, dungeon raids are a complete waste of time.

Playing the game FOR THE FIRST TIME, you're compelled to explore the game. It's only intuitive to try and balance explorations and opening the shop or experiment with the adventures and shit.

My point is: by doing what's intuitive and even encouraged by the game, you WILL fail. Maybe you'll figure shit out the second time. Cool! But by that time you've basically lost what's essentially a 20hour run.

The Souls games are considered extremely punishing games. Not necessarily difficult, but you NEED to learn your way through the game and you'll be raped if you keep insisting in your mistakes and not adapting. Punishing, not difficult.
If you die in a souls game, you respawn and try again, losing a couple of some souls. You can retrieve them and use resources like bones or rings to not lose them in a stupid death.

Reccetear just gives you a game over. Not one life. Not some money. It nukes your "run".

Okay, you're retarded. The game forces you to work on a deadline. It is NOT LOGICAL to experiment and dick around when you have a deadline. If the game shows you an abundance of content but you are locked out of half of it, the safe assumption is that there is end-game content and that you should finish your primary goal first.

Too complex for middleschoolers as it's abstract. Well, let me rephrase that. It's too complex for most middleschoolers because it's too abstract. Percentages are extremely difficult for the average student to grasp in any sort of concrete way and the psychology behind salesmanship is still kind of lost on a group of kids that primarily identifies with groupthink and mimicry. There just isn't enough there yet beyond introducing them very briefly to the concepts.

I think it's far more useful for high school students to use as a physical example and springboard towards doing something like designing your own business ending with understanding expenses, budgets, etc.

If only. Then maybe by the time they got to me in high school they wouldn't be dumb as shit with zero motivations. Up until high school it's really difficult/rare to hold back students even if they fail due to worries about age differences. So usually a student will get held back once at most. The result is some kids barely being able to read or do simple math.

Our country desperately needs to change its attitude towards education before the quality of education can hope to improve.

You can't go wrong with the keyboard, it's worth a little go at least.

Just some basic tips, combo sales are far more impartant than haggling for that little extra money, you'll make more money at the store than in the dungeons, and try to find their near pin value.

One more thing that's important is that while customers can afford anything they pick up off the tables if they ask for a certain kind of item like "I want a hat" then they have a limit in how much they can pay.

I know this. It's still stupid having to re-do events you've already seen for what's frankly an unecessary reason.

Also, how do you know you keep your items after game over never having played the time before?
You don't. Quite the opposite. You'll probably end up selling all your shit through the last days, trying to make the money, ultimately losing EVERYTHING.

Theoretically, you could re-run the game indefinitely, no matter how bad you are, hoarding items and selling everything at once. That's certainly possible, just not exactly my idea of fun gameplay.

>>336872991
You keep spewing knowledge of someone who clearly figured the game out. On your first playthrough you don't even know there's post game content to make that assumption.

You gotta trust the game is balanced and paced properly. If not, wht the fuck would they introduce those mechanics in the first place?
Why the fuck would they punish you for experiencing what's clearly a HUGE part of the gameplay befode the end game? That's insane!

But regardless, isn't reasonable the assumption that unlocking more advanced dungeons would lead to more valuable loot?
Why would you stay locked inside, selling candy and clothes when you could be looting treasures and artifacts?
Why would they gate so much content, and the fun content for that matter, behind hours and hours of the main plotline?

>>336873517
Calm the fuck down faggot.

I did everything the game introduced me to. I went tool some dungeons, equiping my mercs, sometimes buying cheap shit at the market and opening my shop. Buying bellow the base price, selling above it.

How hard is it for you to understand that? I'm not arguing I did the right thing, because I clearly didn't. I'm arguing this game is stupid for requiring me NOT to do things it taught me how to do in order for me not to lose.

It's not exactly a $60 title. I don't go into the bargain bin and expect a 10/10 movie either. The reason it's "overrated" is that it caters to a niche Jewing Simulator market. I have only played the game once.

I. Fucking. Aced. It. On. The. First. Try.

Recettear is not a complicated game. Stop acting like it's the game's fault because you made bad decisions. The game made it blatantly obvious that you cannot 100% it on the first run, and it's not the first goddamn game to have end-game or multi-run content, and the only reason you couldn't possibly pick up on it is if this is one of the first video games you've ever played in your life.

Look at this anon and laugh. Have you ever took advantage of things going in sale and selling them once their price goes up? You only ever need to do the dungeons once and that's for the story missions. Other times are for getting new adventurers to jew the fuck out of. They were literally unfair.
Various items/powerups that make you lose the game just for picking them up. Puzzles with solutions that make absolutely no logical sense. Exc.

Just watch a review of Dragon's Lair for the NES if you want an actual example.
>>
The true way of knowing you mastered the game is being able to start a new game and beat all the dungeons, unlock all adventurers and still more than double the required money every week. I have to admit that it takes some luck with town events though especially for Griff stuff and getting Nagi.
>>
>>336874295
Of course not. Nigga I'm telling you I played this game intuitively.

I don't remember how much were my margins since it's been over an year, but they were arround the ones the tutorial sugested. People bought and sold the items saying it was a good price or a good deal or things like that.

Appearently, my mistake was going dungeon exploring before basically finishing the game, unless there is some other objective after you pay the debt.

>>336874635
I don't get you. If I don't save, I'll have to either load my previous save or restart the game.
Loading my game would put me close enough to the deadline that I wouldn't have enough time to prevent my demise.
Loading a save file farther back would probably have the same effect, or put me so far back that would have the same effect of making me replay hours of repeated content.
Restarting the game is clearly besides the point for the sake of the argument I'm trying to make here.

I'll try to make myself clear for the last time, and you'd better pay attention >>336875086 because this is for you too.

It is RETARDED to have what is essencialy "permadeath", in a slowburnner game like an RPG, because you don't loose a 45min run; you loose dozens of hours of progress.

Save files are useless because your progress is "self dependant", meaning that fucking up adds up to the point where you can't fix shit unless you go back so far behind it defeats the pourpose of having a save file to begin with.
So, it's a bad desing choice to have such an element in a game like this.

If you pulled it off 1st try, good for you. Have a cookie. Just don't expect me to ignore the ACTION part of an action RPG entirely, after the game told me how to do it and told me I should do it, just because it's not optimal enough.

You can't fuck up like this in any other game even if you tried. Maybe in city builders, but they're sandbox games, not RPGs.

FYI, I love everything about the game. This is literally the one fault that kills it.

I'd probably have appreciated it too, if it was properly balanced arround the idea of jewing the villagers ALONGSIDE dungeon crawling, not exclusively.

>>336876198
Honestly it really sounds like you're just bad? I had no problems doing dungeons and then making money too.

>dungeon crawling
>artificial difficulty
The dungeons are fucking easy as shit, you are fucking bad.

If you complained about the RNG drops from the bosses, I'd agree but you're complaining about the dungeons' difficulty like some retard faggot.

>t is RETARDED to have what is essencialy "permadeath", in a slowburnner game like an RPG
But it isn't. It's only like that if you sold off everything AND you decided to keep going in your next loop without retaining anything from your inventory.

If you don't make the needed payment on a given week, you just get a massive headstart when you go back to the first week. I didn't have any issues doing both shopkeeping and plentiful adventuring on my first run either.

If you can't fuck the loli it's a wasted potential. People take lolis for granted nowadays teehee loli jew and all that. And then BAM and lolis are no more. We must secure the existence of lolis and the future for loli porn.

Jesus christ, melodramatic much?

Don't even have to complain about drops from bosses, getting certain drops at all like the crystals from knights is fucking torture.

>>336876582
You can perfectly easily do dungeons and running the shop for money at the same time. I've done it in all my games even my first one. I took 3 days a week to progress dungeons or rerun dungeons since I cleared them and only opening the shop at last hour of the day while using other days for full shop time.

Really stop blaming the game for your own failures.

shut up maja, your scene sucked.

That's not true, even if you removed all your inventory, merchant level and customer relationships carry over.

Lolis are natural masters of illusions and stealth, so it's impossible to be rid of them as they will always find comfort even in the dankest and darkest of places.

Pic related. There are TWO lolis in this picture. Can you find them?

Dungeons are as profitable as you make them.

You just need to not suck and be able to clear the high level dungeons with lower level characters. There is no time limit on the amount of time you can spend in the dungeon itself within one run so it's a great opportunity to farm the shit out of every floor, power level the merc, and then get loads of awesome loot from the bosses so you can craft shit and get awesome gear.

No-damage dungeon runs are also super easy even with lower level, undergeared mercs. The only constant is your actual skill. The bosses also telegraph their attacks so much it should be piss easy to beat them after one or two runs at them. Once you unlock the boss rush modes, just keep practicing. You should have unlocked and beaten the second-last dungeon before you finish paying off your debts.

Dungeon crawling was my main source of income that let me save up for shit like the melon sales where I just basically make several thousand gold per melon as soon as it surges in price.

Lying faggot, there's three of them. There's one in the background on the bridge's arch, there's a pigtail sticking out from the green roof, and there's one disguised as a tree right there in the foreground.
