darkest hour is primarily a ww2 sim game with a ww1 scenario taped on it is largely imbalanced and does not reflect the grand strategies of the great war to any extent. Victoria 1 did have a ww1 scenario, it suffers from the same problems of hearts of iron in that it is trying to simulate a time period by using a different time periods tactics. Victoria 2 although does crosses the years of 1914-1918 the world wars as we know it will never be displayed and world wars end up being quite common negating any feeling that western nations felt about war afterwards. I count that at least four of these games are flight sims which caters to a niche audience and darkest days has a ww1 level if i remember correctly but your some time traveling cowboy so it is to my opinion that it should not be counted. the only way to play a ww1 game in a first person setting is to play Verdun. The trailer looked like hot garbage and WW1 has absolutely nothing interesting or fun about it in terms of video game possibilities outside of a fucking telltale adventure where you have to deal with the years-later effects of mild mustard gas poisoning.
A frantic FPS based around a war where "tanks" and "planes" were literally made of wood and went 15mph along with 90% of guns (even LMGs) being incredibly fucking slow firing is just fucking stupid.

Planes at the time were slow, weak, and couldn't even maneuver very well because of the lacking thrust and lift, tanks at the time weren't tanks at all but mobile walls, and guns at the time were pretty much one slight step above civil war era garbage with the exception of a handful of things that (as said) were still used in WWII and were even pretty lame by then.
