Come on now, I'd say Dark Souls 3 is my least favourite of the Souls games I've played, it just feels so lame and uninspired for most of the areas that we felt like we had seen a hundred times before, the weapons felt really poorly balanced with half of them not worth using because they were just too slow, the removal of stuff like powerstancing or equivalents to bonfire ascetics and the unnecessary Dark Souls 1 call backs all made me enjoy the game less (though it was still a good game but it just felt so... sequely).
But, I have to say, the bosses were probably the best in the series, they were all creative, unique and if they weren't challenging at least they had an interesting gimmick outside of maybe the Dragonslayer Armour.

It's not a terrible game on its own but it was a huge disappointment as a sequel to DaS. Easily the weakest entry in the series. Plus there was the downgrade and the bullshit of the SotFS re-release.

I somehow found 3 to be even more fucking boring and uninspired than 2, the entire game was just a Demon's/Dark1 wankfest that failed to capture everything that made what it was referencing good.
There was also minimal area variety, with half the areas taking place in and around some bland and unimportant mediaeval countryside or a generic dungeon with the same atmosphere/assets and with every enemy being a generic hollow. Or fuck it, just straight up recycling Anor Londo seemingly because the developers couldn't come up with any new unique areas of importance. At least 2 had a fucking viking level out of nowhere, an ocean fortress, a flaming hell castle, etc. and BB managed to make every area feel fresh despite them all taking place around Yharnam because the atmosphere and design of every area was so varied and the environments all looked new.
Let's not forget the barely existent NPCs and covenants either.
I just couldn't force myself to play a new character past the Undead Settlement. Sorry for the blog, I just needed to vent my frustration over this and figured it was a fitting thread to do so.

BB is my favourite souls game, but DaS2 is my second favourite. Really liked the sheer build variety the game offered despite it's flawed.
DaS is overrated as hell. Second half of the game sucks donkey dick. I feel like DaS3 could be the best in the series, but with how unbalanced the game is regarding things like magic and heavy weapons and the fact that poise doesn't work really sours on the game for me.

My problem with DS3 is luck of adventure feelings. It`s too short, locations variety is horrible: cathedrals, swamps or recolor of chalice dungeons.

And the thing I hate the most is how it's all a linear path. You just encounter the lords of cinder along your way to Aldrich and they don't feel special at all. Whereas in 1 and 2, and I guess you could count DeS too, the archdemons/lord souls were at the end of their own branch of the map, which made them feel like more of an accomplishment and gave the game more exploration.

not for me. chalice dungeons are some lazy shit poorly thrown together with whatever enemies followiwng the dungeon theme, bigger souls and higher damage. after beating Yharnam I didn't say "ok cool" but rather "FUCKING FINALLY THIS SHIT IS OVER". the only bosses in there that I actually had fun with was Defiled Amy and the Darkbeast.
weapon variety is good but the gems were badly implemented. almost no special effects worth using, just stick fire or bolt on something for enemies weak to it like the ayy and call it a day, there's nothing useful to get until you're at endgame and can farm good stuff in Pthumeru Ihyll / Lower Loran.

3 isn't "insanely linear".
It's not as open as 1, but you definitely have a lot of possible ways to go about it.
For example, you can do dancer early and do oceiros + champion gundyr. And/or you can go to dragonslayer armour.
You can go towards cathedral of the deep or do abyss watchers.
You can go smouldering lake or ignore it. You can go to Pontiff or towards Yhorm through the dungeon. At any point depending on how you went through it you can go to archdragon peak
