1080 is only 2x faster than current cards in VR only.

The 1080 will be faster than a 980ti and that's about it.

1080/70 will probably run 1080p and 1440p on a stable 60+ and that's it.

It'll probably cost me 1000 kangaroo dollars but I'll most likely buy it.

>>

Yeah but it will be worth it as long as you know that it's going to be just a bit better than a 980ti
>>
just a heads up to everyone: nvidia still uses dx11 benchmarks because dx12 runs like utter ass on their cards. They want 600 bucks in order to give you 30 more fps in games that are already over a year old.

think about that.
>>
>>336754703
I was waiting for the new card to be released before upgrading anyway. I guess the real question is whether to buy it now or wait another 8-12 months for a 1080ti

So, given that I stuck with my 770 till now, should I go 1070 or 1080? I want a card that will last me to the 1300 series, but recently I was ok with lowering settings in MGSV and Witcher, for example.

Probably getting a 4K TV soon as well, since that's basically all they sell now.

1080 is better than 2 980's SLI, but only minor improvements over 980Ti, outside of VR.

Literally who cares. It will be slower than amd in every dx12/vulkan game, so unless you are planning to play dx9/11 games at 1000 fps then you are beter off with amd.
>>

I own a 950 overclocked and it isn't a problem for modern games.
Buy a 212 EVO cooler and overclock it, you'll get marked performance gains in a lot of games.

Anons, I'm not that computer savvy, but i'm tryng to learn. I just bought a 290 and I can run most stuff on ultra, but I'm definitely already seeing the struggle with newer games such as quantum break and ds3 and whatnot. Would it be too soon to upgrade to the pascal or should I wait for whatever comes out after that? Also is there a unified place to learn how and when to upgrade and what all this stuff means? Putting the parts in the computer is definitely way easier than figuring out what parts go with what to make the computer work.

I'll give you a tip that has saved me a lot of money through the years:

ONLY upgrade if you want to play a specific game and that game can't be maxed/enjoyed enough with your current setup.

So you'll have to answer to yourself if your 770 4GB can play the games you want to play to your satisfaction.

If the answer is "no" than yes the 1080 will surely fix that. But why would you spend money if you don't even have any reason to upgrade? You won't notice it if you already run it to your satisfaction anyway.

t. guy forced to watch his brother that only plats cs;go and DOTA upgrade his hardware every 6 months.
>>
>>336761116
Not all games support it. The ones that do don't on day 1, it's either a patch a month later or you have to do it manually using Nvidia Inspector, so basically wait until some autist figures out how to force SLI. It's just not as reliable as a single card, it's only useful if you have a really good card, because even if SLI isn't that good for a game, hey, you still have a 980Ti. Getting 970 performance out of my two 960's is nice, but it's just too inconsistent. Better to sell a card and upgrade than to buy a duplicate of your old card.

At the moment there is nothing more powerful than the single GPU 1080 from Nvidia

It has everything what you want for 1080p+ - 4K gaming

The 1070 is very solid probably same as the 1080 but tweaked a bit down for less money

Overall what you get is extreme performance increase (2X Titan X and 3X less power comsumption) with this new pascal achitecture

I don't really see why you shouldn't upgrade to a 1070 - everythings speaks for it

The 1080 Ti is yet to be confirmed and is for extreme enthusiast builds

Not that anon but just go google it, the downsides of multi-gpu have been known for ages. Fundamentally though it comes down to the overhead and problems with keeping two cards in sync, SLI has issues with a lot of games, generally provides a sub-linear improvement (and triple/quad is even worse), can result in issues with stutter/tearing, etc.

In fairness, if you care about VR that's a special case, since you're basically driving two screens with identical images from slightly shifted perspectives it divides pretty much perfectly, so SLI makes plenty of sense there. But for normal single screen gaming SLI is always worse then a single better performing card, at least when ignoring price.

Basically think of it like multi-cpu: some stuff is multithreaded and can take advantage of it, but multi-threading is hard even today and lots of stuff scales badly or not at all. There are some cases where the wins are big, but for general workloads one faster CPU is better to the extent that's possible.
>>
>>336761703
I'd say wait until DX12 benchmarks come out, yes the 1080 will rape any DX11 game and VR games but if Nvidia can't get good performance in DX12 it will hurt them badly.

>>
>>336762183
Nvidia likely cripple older cards to get people to upgrade more frequently

When you find a stable driver, stick to it, unless you really have to upgrade. Like if you're having crashes and other performance issues with your card.

Some games such as starwars battlefront and mirror's edge caraclyst have mandatory gpu driver updates. Probably because of jew deals.
Unless you have a card of the latest series series, you should probably avoid those. Or accept the downgrade.

It should be okay to update video drivers if you have the latest series of cards though. just make sure to read online if they're stable before you do. Some new gpu drives actually cause bluescreens and game crashes.

I don't know if this only downgrades performance in older games or just the newer ones. Better safe than sorry I'd say.

>Also how do you notice when this happens?
I'm pretty sure people noticed something were off when their gpu's got lower fps after updating, and since then everyone has updated drivers with caution.

What did they mean by this?

>>336764168
Are you suggesting that nvidia killed your GPU with intent by driver update?
>>
>>336764285
>make claim
>this is shit dude, theres no evidence
>I don't really care anyway!
>>
>>336764137
Macdonalds my nigga.

I do sympathise, the world is fucked, especially for you poor cucks in North America.

But you gotta start somewhere, otherwise you'll be NEET until you kill yourself in a shame fuelled depression.

Do it for the graphics card today, makes it easier if you have quality short term goals.
>>
>>336764135
that's what i'm saying you cunt

nvidia in charge of reading comprehension
>>
>>336763998
This isn't really true, yes some drivers have fucked up framerates on older cards but Nvidia actually responded to this and attempted to fix it with the next driver. It was a bug, not intentional sabotage. The other issue is that Nvidia cards don't improve as much over time as AMD cards with drivers, which is more of a hardware thing. The only actual "proof" I've found was bechmarks on reddit where a card was initially better than a newer one, and then over time became worse. The reasoning for this should be obvious, as drivers focus on newer tech, obviously cards designed for that newer tech will perform better. Alos Nvidia is notorious for having poor benchmarks on release,, which are optimized later, so take initial performance with a grain of salt when comparing to older cards.
>>
>>336764168
Fuck I also have DPC latency on my 970.

Did you find out how to fix it?
>>
I'll just wait until this card comes out to get my now cheaper 980 or 970.
>buying the latest gfx cards
HUEHUEHUEHUE
>>
>>336764168
That sounds like it was just a defective card.
>>
>>336761116
Microstuttering.
it's when the gpu(s) distrubute frames inconsistently throughout each second.

1000 fps means nothing if all those frames were all squeezed into the first 1/10 of each second. it's still gonna look like a stuttering mess.
This is of course not always an issue, but it more often is than it is not.
>>
>>336764285
I have a 780ti and have no reason to get a new card, whether its nvidia or AMD

I dont game in 4k so I dont see an issue for a while
>>
>>336764137
bro you can get a fucking job at a grocery store easily, they just rotate people in like nothing and half expect them to leave mid semester. Also have you tried lying about your employment history? It's not rocket science here friendo.

Actually, based on the recent TDP showcase, AMD might have lower power consumption for the same level of performance.
>>
>>336764168
This is anecdotal crap

Why didn't you just do a clean install or use Driver Sweeper?
>>
>>336764467
Well, that's a relief. But I still don't want unstable drivers, so I'll wait until the release a confirmed solid one.

Would my 3570k work with this?
>>
>have a GTX660

>have to play Overwatch with medium/low settings for example
Definitely buying this. I always wanted to try VR as well anyways.
>>
>>336759837
AMD is boasting like 50% reduction in watt/perf
>>
reminder that there's only a 10% performance increase from a 970 and that you should NOT buy the new 1000 series.

nah, 780 still going strong and i'm not planning on going 4K for at least another couple years

only if you have a 9xx series already

I have a 560ti, so it's a fantastic upgrade for me.

Nah, just bought my 970 months ago.

I will probably wait for 1170 or 590.
>>
>>336764137
as far as your employment history goes, this
>>336764630
is true. i lied recently on my application, almost the entire thing and 7 years worth of fake job experience. just put my friends names as references and told them to tell anyone who called that i was a former employee and a great guy. got hired at the DMV, and thats a government job, so you'd think they have rigorous background backs, and even my lies got through.

the real tough part of finding a job is the interview, especially if you are socially awkward robot
>>
>>336764168
>installing new drivers on my 780 actually ruined it.
no it didn't

>I got DPC latency
if you actually got this, why didn't you uninstall and go back to an old driver?
>shit load of stuttering
why didn't you RMA or just uninstall the driver if you had problems?
>it fried at only 45c
yea ok
>>
>>336764168
>eventually fried
>45c under max load

ahh k
>>
>>336764507
I didnt end up fixing it entirely. I was able to reduce it after a bunch of random trial and error bullshit, like reinstalling drivers or doing clean installs.

Try googling LatencyMon and use it to figure out shit.

Its hard to believe right? I didn't want this shit to happen to me but it fucking did. I couldn't believe it myself.

Frying at low temps and shit performance after a driver install made 0 fucking sense to me.

I was completely shocked because this has never ever happened to me, and anyone I tried to ask for helped just thought I was lying.

When it happened, all I could smell was burning until i pulled the cord out. After turning it on again, my screen was doing all sorts of weird shit with artifacts.
>>
>>336765715
>Its hard to believe right? I didn't want this shit to happen to me but it fucking did. I couldn't believe it myself.
hard to believe because you have no evidence and its all anecdotal.

>after a driver install
IF YOU KNEW IT WAS A DRIVER ISSUE FROM THE BEGINNING WHY DIDNT YOU REINSTALL THE OLD ONE?
>>
Am I the only one who doesn't drivers regularly?

I'm using a gtx 960, and the shit just werks, so I don't fuck with anything.
>>
>>336758216
I just went from a 560 Ti to a 970.

Then back to the 560 Ti because my mobo even with bios updates to the latest patch doesn't work with it so I have to buy a new one.
>>
>almost twice as fast as a titan x

god fucking damn thats exciting.

gonna be smart and wait to see what amd offers first though.
>>
>>336765715
JUST GIMP MY SHIT UP
>>
>>336753253
I'm a bit skeptical, but this means that the price of other cards should drop considerably though right? Seems like the time to upgrade either way.
>>
>>336765908
>My younger brother got a 970 and I plug it in for him.
>Triple check that everything is plugged in correctly.
>The computer's mobo beeps and tell that something is wrong.
>Can't enter bios when the gtx 970 is in the system. but it works fine without it
>There's only a black screen. We call it a day and go to sleep
>next morning he is playing games maxed out
>"how?"
>"I typed in /startup"

Had there been any indication that keyboard input worked at all, and anything on screen then this would have made more sense. What the fuck could he been thinking when he came up with that idea. That's some "hack the planet shit"

I'm getting a big check for practically nothing in October so I'll consider it then, I barely make enough to pay my cost of living and phone right now.
>>
I'm going to wait for actual reviews and benchmarks. After that i'll try and make an informed decision.

If the GTX 1080 is only a minor upgrade to the 980 i might as well take advantage of dropping sale prices and save myself some money for a minor hit at performance in the long run.
>>
>>336753253
I'm more curious about the 1070 when that comes out. I doubt I have a mobo or processor to do a 1080 justice.

Is buying high-end cards the meme? I sure do love to pay additional 300 bucks for, maybe, 10 fps bump
>>
>>336761442

I have the same card man. I will just keep using it and drop settings , maybe from high, to high/med, then med.. Once it hits low it would be time to upgrade.

By that time 1170 or 490 should have come out.

I'll probably get a 1060.
>>
>>336769476
Because they cost $700
>>
>>336753253
No. I thought these would sport hbm memory.
>>
>>336769476
Because a large percentage of people buying high end cards have cases with windows. Even if those didn't exist cards would still have aesthetics to influence purchases subconsciously.
>>
>>336772123
HBM2 isn't going to be available until late 2016 at the earliest, and even then not in the quantities needed to put it in cards down to the 1070.
>>
I fucked off from Nvidia right because of that bullshit. HURR DURR BE A GAMURRR CHECK YOUR RIG DURR GET ALL GAMING NEWS MOTHERFUCKER.
Some people just want a graphics card WITHOUT "gamer" bullshit. Sadly that's not possible with Nvidia.
>>
I need to build a desktop ASAP. Should I wait for the 960 price to drop or will it still take a few weeks after the 1080 launches?

doesn't say that anywhere. 20% faster than a Titan X is what Nvidia's graph shows
