I hated the invasion system in Bloodborne and the blood gem system for weapons was pants on head retarded. DaS3 is below old hunters but above bloodborne whereas dark souls remains in the middle.

Well, it's just a different kind of game. They wanted to make something faster and more aggressive and that's what they did.
And no, Souls doesn't play at the same speed, even with straight swords. You can't zip in and out of enemies like you can in BB and you don't get different attacks depending on what direction you roll in.
If you wanna play a "heavy" weapon in BB you could always use the Kirkhammer/Ludwig's and stay in tricked mode forever.

In Dark Souls you could play a fast character that relied on dodging, a slow character that relied on blocking, or one in between that could do both. Dark Souls 3 had a really weird start. I didn't really dig everything up to and including Undead Settlement. But after that I started to enjoy it quite a bit. I only wish that there were more areas like Sen's Fortress to invade in. The Catacombs is close but the traps are all kinda lackluster (sans the ~40 skeletons before the breaking bridge). Least you get a lot of invasions there since it's after a boss and even shit players still have their ember. Lotta hosts are still in Way of Blue too so you get free forked tongues whenever a blue tries to chase you on the Skeleball Bridge. Plus its a great place to go great bow sniping with the obscuring ring.

Many of the good Blood Gems and 2/3 of the Blood Rocks (before you could buy them at the insight vendors) were all random drops you had to grind for in Chalice Dungeons. It took fucking forever to make a competitive build. It was a fucking nightmare. And for as many of the good bosses in them you also had shit like Maneater Boar, Merciless Watchers, Brainsucker, Forgotton Madman, etc. It's true that they were "more content", but half that content was pretty bad and rendered the good content it added null.

Wow a game where everything is pretty much leather armor, with no shields, with an emphasis on dodging/side stepping vs a game designed with armor like Havel ls in mind.

Yhorm's is good, I'll admit. But overall strength weapons are shit in DaS3. And this is especially true for PvE. Now, of course anyone can beat the game with whatever weapons they want, sure, but strengths are much less optimal when it's so much easier to just stunlock everything with straight sword R1 swings instead of just getting stunlock raped by puny hollows with daggers all the time.
All they needed to do was increase the hyperarmor windows. DeS had no poise and strength weapons were still viable because hyperarmor actually helped instead of only being active during a minute period of time.

I'm not seeing it man. Of the four strength weapons I have used I haven't really had a problem with any. Butcher knife is fast and heals you, machete is just a worse version of yhorm's, no one expects the demon greataxe, and yhorm's machete is generally great.

Fuck. What an adventure. I havn't feel these intense sensations in a video game for ages.
I've almost been discouraged at the beginning of the game, vs the gargoyles. I couldn't get the draconic sword, because I unintentionally attacked the undead merchant who sells a bow. But I could do it with my loved claymore, which I used throughout the entire game.
I'm so sad I finished it. It was so good.

Not really. Just hit things once or twice, circle around and hit them again. Same way I used all my weapons. If anything they are pretty good for PVE because they can stun enemies just outside the weapons actual range which can come in handy.
