I have no desire to finish this game because of this. Archdragon Peak is constantly dropping frames and I am guessing the final area will too if I ever decide to finish Archdragon Peak. I put up with it until I had these last two bosses, but I just can't take it anymore. There's no reason for this game to be doing this on a 980.

You can buy a monitor that does 90-120hz for less than 900$. I myself have a 2160x1440p monitor that does 120hz that I paid $300 for (Korean QNIX).
Additionally, I have a 970 GTX, am playing at a higher resolution than you, everything is on high, and the only noticeable framerate drops I had were after warping and from opening/closing menus which are entirely reasonable reasons to have a half-second delay.
It's pretty amazing to me that autists like you are so entitled to constant/solid 60fps gaming when 30fps was the standard until a few years ago and no one gave a shit. Except that it does and I've had the monitor for two years and haven't had any issues.
The reason why Korean monitors are a thing is because they are A or A- grade instead of A+ grade which just translates to a slight amount of light bleed that you can't even notice unless you're looking for it and have an entirely black panel OR a couple dead pixels that you wouldn't even notice on a 2160x1440p monitor. I did google refresh rate tester and used a high speed camera to test my frame rate, it works just fine. Additionally, my panel has barely any lightbleed and 0 dead/stuck pixels.
Otherwise, A+ graded panels are sold by Apple or Samsung as their highest end panels for hundreds of dollars more.
But if you want to call something a shitheap due to imperceptible differences, I guess that's kind of your MO.

I've been getting increasingly worse performance since I started playing the game. My first visit to Firelink shrine had almost no frame drops, now after ~70 hours and well into NG+ it chugs down to ~5 when I'm running toward Andre.
Does this shit in most other areas too, I got minimal frame drops up in most areas until Lothric Castle and from there on it got worse and worse, even in areas that had no/few drops before. When I teleport to the Vordt bonfire and run toward the castle garden it'll just chug down to one frame every few seconds, it's unbearable and it didn't do this shit before. Anyone else having this problem? I'm a filthy pirate still running 1.03, do any of the updates help at all? My PC is toaster-tier as well but again I had acceptable performance when I first started playing.

There is no doubt DS2 looks like shit. Worse than DaS? Some may say so. I chalk it up to a horrible lighting system probably implemented because consoles couldn't handle what they showed in the e3 trailer, and a general lack of time to polish what they had created. DS2 has the most content of the souls games. Even more with the DLC. All of it is "completed" in the sense it is there, but I feel like they had to cut corners in enemy placement, story, and like I said polish. It is horrendous to see a castle with the same texture repeated 500 times. If you look at FotFG they did try to break that up with rubble and roots, but even then you can see many barren ugly areas. What DS2 lacks in graphics and atmosphere it makes up in having the best mechanics, build viability, and minor improvements we've seen in the series. Give me SotFS mechanics in DS3 and you have yourselves a masterpiece. Excluding the obvious like soul memory.

We live in a world where people think anything under 60 FPS is unacceptable and unplayable. Back when I got into gaming you had like 15 FPS and you liked it because there wasn't shit you could do about it.
These days people run FPS counters constantly and if their frame rate drops to 59.99 FPS they start yelling "Fucking thing sucks" and talking about how their computer sucks or how poorly optimized the game is. And that's not exaggerating. I had a room mate who would do this and if his frame rate dropped to 59 FPS he literally would start crying about how awful his hardware is now and how much in need of an upgrade he is.
