Girls who pretend to play video games for attention (pic related), or girls who do play video games and expect to be treated like special snowflakes while respected as being "badass"?For those who don't remember, Dylan Nuno was the 16 year old bully who got stabbed multiple times by the kid he was harassing. Weeks before the stabbing, several girls (pic related) pretended to be gamers to get Dylan's affection since he played Call of Duty. This example literally bought an Xbox 360 controller and made a video talking about how much she loves Dylan while pretending to play it, despite not owning any games or even the Xbox 360 to play them on. She took the video down after Dylan's death.
"Gamer" is not an identity.
If you watch movies, you're not a "filmer", you're just a normal fucking person.
The fact that these people are so desperate to label themselves to align with "gamers" is not only confusing to me, but sad.
I play a lot of games when I can. I talk about it online. I don't question someone for being a "true gamer". I just talk to people.
However, I realize that there's a spectrum of people. There are people who only play the latest nintendo, people who only play phone/sport/whatever games, people who are hardcore into fighting games, Cod kiddies, retro game people, and just people who are overall more invested in games.
Though they all play games, I'll be talking to each of them differently. There's no gender bias here when it comes to people so desperate to fall under the "gamer" label.
There are just as many guys who do that. However, you're much less likely to find a dude using their gender and sexual attractiveness to gain favor in gaming communities. If you were like me, you would use a tag, and an anonymous picture. You wouldn't be fighting for gender equality in games. You wouldn't be bragging about being really good at Dr. Mario, because it doesn't fucking matter. That doesn't mean you and I are on the same page. That doesn't mean I owe you my attention. You're just another electric signal engineer over the internet to me.
If you want to talk to people about games, talk to people about games. Don't cry when you don't know the answer
about a game or if someone says you suck at games.
Just be like everyone else, and just play video games.

I think it has more to do with how often you get it. Generally, the act of being found out as a girl gets you a lot of shit in a game, even if its unwarranted. A good idea in hindsight, but it became a floodgate that said "hey, they can skip it, so let's add 900% more into the next game!" and every KH since has had more and more hours dedicated to the cinematics, and the game was terribly optimized, so every cutscene usually was followed by a load time (unskippable by the way). Again, something I couldn't support.
Besides which, I don't recall ever saying "you're not allowed to support this". Not like I can enforce that, anyway. I'm just calling out a bad industry practice when I see it. They're called video GAMEs, not video movies.

I don't have a problem with a tiny bit of story here and there. But I expect a game to have several thousand hours of replayability, and less than 1 hour of cutscenes between all of that. Many of the classics, like Mario and Super Metroid, showed that you can tell a story without cutscenes or voice acting (except for the obnoxious opening intro for Super. I hate that blight on an otherwise amazing game).
