Jason is not a character, he's a plot device. His sole reason for existing in the narrative is so he can die and start the story. Because of this, David Cage really had to stretch to find a way to get him to die as quickly as possible, and somehow he ended up with the incomprehensible bullshit we were left with.
Why did he disobey his parents and run a fucking mile out into traffic? Because he needed to die so the game could start.
