I would agree with you but the head of the Lucasfilm Storygroup (who is in charge of what is and isn't canon) has said multiple times that the fanbase, as recognized by disney, is split about 50 50 between fans of the PT and fans of the OT.
Whether or not that is true, its apparent that Disney has nothing against the Clone Wars era. Plus, we already have multiple comics and books released by disney covering the era. They clearly have no bias against it at the moment

lucas' problems with the PT were 1) he can't write dialogue and 2) he didn't have somebody holding him in check to tell him when he had a bad idea. in the OT it was his ex-wife and kershner, even some of the special FX guys would have input
lucas tried to expand a universe from scratch in the PT and in terms of lore and world-building he was semi-succesful. the problems he had came from the obvious shit that should've been cut, jar jar, shitty anakin actors. episode 1 would've been god tier if you had a different kid instead of jake lloyd and jar jar never leaves naboo.
contrast that with jar jar abrams who is a hack and only knows how to imitate superior directors like spielberg, de palma, lucas, and nicholas meyer. abrams didn't take a single risk in episode 7, he and disney went out of their way to avoid EVERYTHING in the PT, and just copy+pasted episode 4/5. hell it's 30 years after episode 6 and we don't even have A-wings or Interceptors, just shit x-wings and ties all over again.
