Is anyone else noticing this happen as they get older? Is it going to get worse?

That's because you're just sitting on your ass all day, shitposting on /v/.

33 here.

Yes and yes.

You'll also realize how fucking retarded all the neckbeard spergs who identify as "hardcores" are. You don't think it'll happen to you. Wait.

I'm 20 and I realise this.

I turn 25 this week and my hope is that I hardly come to this site anymore by the time I'm 30
>>
>>336496401

Used to like competitive shooters. Now I like co-op.
>>
>>336496401
Gets worse, play a less reaction heavy character in a fighter like a grappler or just play dota or one of its clones if you want to enjoy competitive games

Christ, I'm 24 and am afraid this is going to happen me to me soon. Haven't noticed a difference yet, luckily.
>>
>>336497230
This is why I just play RPGs nowadays. I can play at my own comply pace, don't need to compete, don't need to "git gud", just play and enjoy.

I like games like Path of Exile now where the focus is more on theorycrafting and knowing how to build good characters rather than actually having to be good at twitchy gameplay. Just can't do that shit anymore.
>>
>>336496937
You have to work to keep your reflexes alive. Actual reflex training will keep you working well into your 40s. And no, there is no reflex training video game.

Yeah, but video games aren't important enough to me to justify spending a significant amount of my free time doing exercises just so I can still be competitive with autistic neckbeards. I'm ok with not being as good at games anymore. I don't enjoy twitchy games anymore anyway.
>>

I'm turning 20 in 3 months and wondering how gaming in general is going to be in 10 years, ranging from the industry itself to the community.

Also if I'll still be as good at Doom as I am now

The only games i play are RPG so not really

Reflex based game are getting more and more rare these days so it's really a non issue

On the plus side, though, I've had way, way more sex than I did 10 years ago, and I have way more money, so there's that, I guess.

I never had good reaction time, so mine has stayed about the same.
In fighting games I just focus on learning frame data and focusing on mindgames. I do OK.
>>
Yes, they will get worse.

IT's not the end of the world, you can practice them. The same way your body will deteriorate as you get older and you will never enjoy the same physical fitness as your youth, but you can still exercize to keep in shape and will be in better shape than most young shitters who would rather sit around all day than enjoy their youthful energy to push themselves to new limits.

So as long as you keep practicing your reflexes, you should be fine.

I dropped all competitive shooters which I'm a bit sad because I gained a sense of keen motion detection. My eyes would instantly dart towards anything dynamic and small like birds/insects.

I lost that sense after I settled down for JRPGS/VNs. Casual games are cozy
>>
>I have never learned to play games well, never learned anything past the absolute essentials, say 1 bnb for my main in a fighter, and I just wing shit because my reaction times were well above average
>Reactions are getting worse

It's like learning to walk again.
>>
At least you last longer in bed.
>>
>>336496937
Hardcore has a defined meaning. It's someone who plays a large variety of games spanning multiple genres and follows the gaming industry closely. Whereas casual are the people who play Candy Crush while taking and shit or waiting for the bus and core are the people who play Call of Duty/Fifa/Battlefield/[Insert AAA title here] for 10 minutes after work.
>>
>>336498304
Reflex-based games can now be turned into a million dollar career. What are you talking about?
>>
>>336498161

One such way is to practice an activity or a sport where there is a huge emphasis on reaction time. MArtial Arts is my best example since I still practice them at 27 and it keeps my reflexes top shape.

Other ways are to practice in fast paced games that require you to react fast to imminent threats. Some types of shmups can help you, fighting games help you with reaction timing a lot, etc.
>>
>>336498304
Nigger reflex based games make up 9/10 games being released these days.

30 also and no, not really. Worse than some 16 year old punk in some FPS? Yeah, sure, but no worse than I've been.

I'm really more worried about my right wrist, though. It gets tight and crampy really easily and has to pop a lot the last year or two.
>>
>>336499023
Grow a beard, baldies always look less retarded with a beard.
>>
>>336498764
And what about people who play actual games, but just don't play 8 hours a day, every day, and don't give a fuck about the industry?

This is why hardcores are retarded. They think you're either one of them, or a casual who plays shitty mobile phone games. They have no concept of people who like video games but don't build their entire life around them.
>>
>>336499016
I'm 36 and still play IIDX daily. My scores aren't getting worse. At times they're still ever so slowly getting better.

Practice. That's all you can do.
>>
>>336499023

Grow a good beard and do it fast. A decent beard allows almost anyone to pull off a bald look.
>>
>>336498443
I would think that the fixed time of each match, and in turn the downtime between each match, would end up hindering you the longer along you went. We're also talking purely simulation here; I would imagine that trying to keep balance Like literally balancing on something would have a beneficial effect on reflexes, along with most Sports.
The case is going to be on the verge of degradation, at the very least, if you just keep it at the same pace. It could also be one of the things that are best improved by variety, and generally keeping your wits about you.
>>
>>336499179
That's core.
>>

MOBA shit and team fortress ripoff are NOT
>>
>>336499309
>Star Fox requiring good reflexes

The game is slow as shit. Try Armored Core 4A.
>>
>>336499309
CS:GO for example still is on top. Don't tell me you think you don't need reflexes for that.
Same with mobas, I don't play neither and I dislike both but it is all about the reflexes kid

My favourite multiplayer game (and basically the only one I play) is RO2/RS, which is relatively slow, so I'm still pretty good at it. in my mid 20s I've always been shit at reflex-based games.

I found im much better at stratergy. What i lose in reflexs i make up for in min maxing.

There's no evidence to support that spending long periods of time staring at a monitor in a dark room has long term adverse effects on eye sight. Short term? Hell yes, but not long term. That's all down to shitty genetics.
>>
>>336500190
I really should, but honestly I've been on my own since I was 15 so I'm used to struggling to get fucking ahead. I can't complain too much, like I said, I'm able to provide a very comfortable life for myself and family, but that shit absolutely comes with sacrifices.

If you guys lose your reflexes it is almost always you're own damn fault. When people don't let themselves go to shit they can still excel at martial arts, archery or yes, even twitch/reflex dependant video games. The reason why most people begin to suck as they get older is because regular adult life doesn't require the reaction time and reflex kids use in the most intense video games, and if you stop doing it, you lose it. Sadly many videogames are starting to be developed with this in mind, which is worsening the problem. If you want to keep your reaction time, stop lifting only 5lb weights, plug in that NES and go back to benching 200.
I'm in my 30s and the shit I'm doing today is way above and beyond anything I was doing as a kid. I could never legit beat turbo tunnel as a kid, Zelda II, rom hacks or any of the things I do for fun now. Kid me probably couldn't even play my own Mario Maker levels.

>>

>The "Im compensating for my lack of hair" beard

You fucking need it though. Being bald with no beard makes you look like a fucking washed up loser, and shaving your head with no beard makes you look like an adult baby.

31 years old here. Used to play CS for probably 10 hours a day from 14-17.

You still have reflexes, you just don't play enough.

When all you have is the game its better.
>>
>>336501803
He's not saying all games are, just that section. If you got the timing right you could do it with your eyes closed, it's all just about memorizing when to push up, when to push down and when to jump. Most people are just shit at timing and have no rhythm whatsoever.
>>
>>336496401

Yeah I've noticed my reflexes have declined a bit and I enjoy single player games more than I used to enjoy competitive multiplayer.

However, I can still stomp my friends and my much younger siblings due to intrinsically understanding game mechanics. I dunno what it is but people seem to have a really hard time adapting to and learning the fundamentals of a new game, but I've always been able to pick up on them really quickly.

Like when I play against my 14 year old brother in Halo, he can usually react to me faster and shoot first, but I have the better understanding of movement, aiming, spawning and map awareness that allows me to fight him on my terms. I'm 25 by the way.
