So there a primer on chalice dungeons? I completed the first one and got two new chalices out of it, but they both seem like they'd make the same dungeon.
Some chalices you win make essentially the same dungeon you just cleared but with randomly generated layout and loot, the other one makes a new type of dungeon entirely.

Yeah, more or less, accounting for whatever extra offerings you do during the ritual.
I don't remember if you get any other actual chalices during the main game since I did everything at once at the end while waiting for the DLC to come out. It might be that you don't get any other actual chalices from the main game but gathering materials for the rituals is what gates progress.

The depth rating determines difficulty. 1 is the easiest, 5 is the hardest. Of course there is a wrench thrown in, the Cursed and Defiled Pthumerian chalice is depth 4, but it's arguably harder than any of the depth 5 chalices because you are always at 50% health. Physical damage is reduced by the same amount, but most enemies do fire or arcane damage which is not reduced at all.
Some of the chalices you will have to do for chalice materials even though they're not otherwise required towards the progress of the Great Pthumerian Ihyll chalice.

Arcane is best specced into later, once you already have the gems and weapons to make it work. It sucks early on. Unless you plan on stopping at a certain level for PVP, just keep leveling up until you can do literally everything on one character.

Wish I had good screenshots of his second form but I usually don't bother at that point and tur the hud back on.

Personally I think it's just based around the old religious practice of self-flagellation, which rips up your back. It's also very similar to how vermin is described. Clerics become bigger beasts by resisting the transformation, that one self-flagellated himself to rid himself of "impurity" he probably didn't understand (just as in real life they're attempting to rid themselves of sin), and ultimately you end up with a giant beast with a giant back wound and giant parasite coming out of him releasing its children.

You'll start finding twin shards starting in the area after you clear the Cathedral Ward. You'll find ample materials for upgrading throughout the storyline. Chalices are a second source of them, but not necessary unlike gem hunting.

I like either spinning in place with the flamesprayer, or rapidly mashing the L1 on the Tonitrus while dashing around to make my character look silly.

Higher insight will change the game. You get less resistance to Frenzy the more Insight you have. Certain enemies will also change. The Lantern wielding enemies in the Chapel area will shoot balls of light at you, and you can start seeing the invisible Amygadala.

if you get enough insight (60) you can buy a blood rock after beating the last mandatory boss in the game. That's a pretty big reward given there is only 2 blood rocks per NG cycle if you include the DLC.

If you're playing offline then yeah, just spend it on whatever. The list of changes it actually makes is disappointingly small. If you're playing online, then you can use it to summon help.

You know all the DLC bosses were some of the toughest bosses I've ever fought but they all felt manageable and fun to fight, all of them EXCEPT for Laurence.
Laurence was one of the most aggravating and arduous experiences I've ever had with a single soul's boss and it still doesn't seem plausible that I had to spend an entire night with him. I mean you wouldn't expect a reskinned cleric beast to be the hardest boss out of the entire BB boss lineup but it honestly got to that stage with me.

Piercing Rifle has the slowest recovery speed of all firearms that aren't cannons, and you can still land Viscerals with it.

It's ingenious really, the first boss everyone fought is now the last boss most people will fight.
Only now with an inflated health pool that assures you'll be dealing chip damage no matter the weapon, shitloads of resistances, a moveset that punishes strategies people have gotten use to with endless AOE attacks and a third phase which is the most deceptively dangerous part of the battle.

Bloodbornes OST was so fucking good, i loved that it was more on the instrumental side and less on the non stop chorus like most Dark Souls tracks and even when tracks had chorus in BB the instruments were still in the foreground and support the chorus even more

Biggest issues with defiled Amy are the jump attacks and the arcane spheres on the regular attacks in second phase.
The jump attack just needs a brief delay before rolling out of the way but the arcane damage is a real problem since in the defiled dungeons elemental damage doesn't get nerfed like physical damage does.

I replayed Bloodborne over the last few days and almost forgot how good it looks.
The Dark Souls games are great, but yuo can tell that BB or even DeS back than had Sony support on their side.
Everything is so detailed and polished, the OST is a step above everything else from Fromsoftware and even the chalice dungeons are great compared to nothing in DS3 except for a NG+ that barely is any more challening

Mostly because enemies in Bloodborne basically don't block. Shitloads of enemies block in Dark Souls 3, and a lot of moves that directly counter trying to bypass the shield.

There are dudes with shields and flaming swords in the chalice dungeons. They're basically the only enemy in the game that actually blocks attacks. They're pretty easy to parry but if you fuck up they can almost 1 hit you with their flaming sword.

No, type of Chalice determines the look of the dungeon and what enemy/bosses are in it. Pthumeru is the basic dungeon type has mostly Pthuemian type enemies, Hintertomb is similar but more dark and dirty looking, a few unique bosses only spawn here, Loran is desert type and has mostly beast type enemies and a few unique bosses, Isz is blue and mostly kin type enemies (Ayy-Lmao) and has a few unique bosses.
Depth determines difficulty, by affecting the health/damage values of enemies, also lower depths have more and more enemy types. 1 is easier than the first area of the game, 2 is roughly Old Yharnam/Cathederal Ward difficulty, 3 is mid game difficulty, 4 is endgame levels of difficulty, 5 is equivilant to NG+ (or even higher).
Chalice's don't have all depths though, Pthumeru has 1-5, Hintertomb only has 2-3 (I think), Loran has 4-5, Isz is just 5.

NG cycle doesn't affect Chalice's so feel free to come back later.
Don't overlevel for the main game to beat a chalice, just play the regular game at your own pace and do Chalice's as you can. People have done it at level 4, you'll get it eventually.
