I was also super mad at BSB, but only because it was that early into the game that I couldn't tell the difference between the Saw Spear and the Saw Cleaver.
I upgraded the Cleaver to +3 and equipped it with what gems I had. Accidentally used the Spear in the entire early game though it was at base level. Wondered why I was doing no damage.

There's no such thing as overleveled, the only stat that matters is your damage stat, enemy damage scales with your HP value, defenses on your attire is meaningless outside of very specific circumstances, base endurance is pletinful enough.

Once you get past a certain point of HP, it stops mattering, if he two shots you at 30 vitality, he'll still 2 shot you at 60 vitality, still one shot you, too.
To avoid his instakill attacks, when he jumps on the ceiling, sprint in one direction until he falls, he'll miss you every time so long as you're sprinting. His one shot charge you just need to side step like mad and hope you moved fast enough and saw the telegraph for it soon enough.
Make sure to break his haunches in the first phase, they leave him open to some big attacks. Don't be afraid to take a couple shots at his face if you're in front of him, if you break his head you can get a visceral, you won't need your bullets for the fight anyway.
In his second phase just unlock when he pulls his sword over his head, and when he goes to slam it down sprint behind him for a big opening.
Otherwise, learn his tells and how to dodge his attacks and you'll get better. Use fire paper, also pop a beast pellet at the beginning of the second phase to boos your visceral damage by a big margin.

it's not that it scales, it's that the amount of HP you gain per vit level decreases as it goes up. After 50 vit it only goes up about 10 per level, between 40 and 50 it only goes up by like 18 per level. So at 30 vit his hit is doing 70-80% of your health, while at 50 vit it's doing 50%.
This still has an advantage though, you only ned to heal once after a hit, not twice.

Nope, blood vials always heal 40% of your HP, and Laurence's swings were always doing around 60%~ of my HP bar when I was testing. It might just affect bosses, or mobs only partially scale, but there is definitely a correlation between your HP value and enemy damage.
But things like fast and slow poison damage are fixed though, a full bar of slow poison will only do like 25-30% of my HP bar at 65 vit. Same with enemy grab attacks, like the gargoyles at cainhurst do the exact same damage to your life bar be it 20 vit or 60, if you wiggle to escape at the exact same number of ticks of damage each time.
