Every other street fighter has had those features. Capcom confirmed to rush it because of the tournaments which is whatever.
Overwatch on the other hand is a new a ip focused on multiplayer gameplay that's being released 2016. It doesn't need single player, it doesn't need a campaign. We live in the moba age and people still expect single player features for an online game.
If capcom devs explicitly said that there would be no future plans of single player and people bought it while still expecting a single player story mode then that's on them.

Street fighter 5 is as unpolished as a game can be.
Its not only the missing singleplayer.
It still lacks basic features that are genre standards.
The online which by the way is the multiplayer is utter garbage.
And it shows general signs of low production quality like clipping in the models or the Ken modell looking like ass.
As much as blizzard makes streamlined games i dont really like anymore, they never saved money in production costs.
Their production quality is usually top notch and i guess overwatch has the typical blizzard polish.

I haven't even bought this game, and own SFV lmao.
1. SFV barely launched with any content that are staples of any fighting game, such as an in-depth training mode, the ability to just fight the AI in Versus, online lobbies that weren't broken and shit, and a proper Arcade/Story Mode. Story mode's AI is literally braindead. It also launched with four less characters than SFIV did in 2008.
2. Overwatch has been sold to the consumer from the beginning as a multiplayer-only video game, and is forty dollars on launch instead of sixty. Also Overwatch is launching with twelve maps and 21 characters, with all characters/maps that are added later on being absolutely free to anybody who buys the game.
It's not the fact that the single player for SF is shit (I play shit once for the Fight Money and never again), it's the fact that they didn't even fucking bother to include it even though they've shown that they have the AI in Training Mode. It's a rush job from Crapcum, plain and simple.

No, for the most part none of them had story modes. The Soul games were really the only ones until MK9 decided to make people go "THIS MULTIPLAYER GAME IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT SINGLE PLAYER ELEMENTS". An arcade mode with an ending (which is what most fighting game "stories" were; SNK's lore shit was always outside of the games) is what virtually every fighting game has ever had.
