/V/ what's the verdict on the Gradius series?
>>>/vr/
Get out, old man.
>>336378895
Gradius Gaiden! nuff said.
Parodius>Gradius
GRADIUS V BEST GRADIUS
>>336378895
it's an actual videogame so we don't talk it on /v/, the meme and dumb twitter shit board
>>336380259
It's that how bad /v/ has gotten?
>>336378895
JUST DON'T PLAY THIS GAME
>>336380820
yup, beside it's too hard for them, they only know how to spout epic meme about dark souls and have never played an actual hard game
>>336378895
Quality series, great games man really.
>>336378974
Fuck off, don't be mad at us cause you were too young for arcades and atari
>>336380259
This is true. HEY GUYS TURN ON CNN, SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING ON TWITTER/KOTAKU/SOMEOTHERWEBSITE gets more attention than an actual game.
This is what happens when you invite social-media-obsessed codependent freaks from reddit onto this board.
>>336381059
>Fuck off, don't be mad at us cause you were too young for arcades and atari
Yeah! fuckers like them don't know shit
My first experience with Gradius was when I was very young and I thought it was some kind of new version of Defender with more stuff in it. And I loved playing Defender, so I naturally fell into the series. The great soundtracks were a bonus.
Except for V. I didn't really like V's music.
>>336378895
>>336378895
Only Gradius/R-Type like game I EVER enjoyed was Einhander.
>Arcade version of Gradius III
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>336381754
I remember the Crystal Maze part of that game was brutal
>>336380926
This stage can fuck itself. Man I hated it.
II > I > III > IV > Gaiden > ReBirth > V > Advance
Never cared much for it beyond the Famicom Salamander and Gradius II. Those MSX Gradius look kinda fun though.
life force nigga
graidus 3 nigga
>>336378895
For me they're the hardest shmups. Seriously I spent like 3 months playing and I just couldn't beat it. I managed to reach the boss rush once and that's it.
Plus I was playing the pc engine version so I had to suffer through an extra desert stage. Fuck me
>>336383108
*Playing Gradius II
>>336378895
Instead of making another sequel to the Gradius Series they givee us this. What the fuck is wrong with Konami?
>>336383673
Weebshit infected shmups. It's all about lolis and anime titties instead of cool mechas, aliens and ships.
Fuck otakus
>>336383673
Cute things are cute, anon.
>>336383798
mecha is the ultimate man-baby genre
real men plays as little girls
they also don't buy games with n64-tier 3d assets
>>336383673
>Xbox exclusive weeb game
I will never understand this. Does Microsoft even pay for these games to be exclusive? That would be like making Call of Duty Wii U exclusive, the audience just doesn't match up.
>>336378895
>/V/ what's the verdict on the Gradius series?
its precul
>>336383673
I have Otomedus Excellent on my 360 and its such a piece of shit, and I like cute stuff and shmups
>>336384315
outside of otaku who do you think were buying microsoft consoles in nippon, anon
>>336384741
...russians?
They're iconic and OK to my tastes, but it's a real kick in the balls to start from scratch with any death. So many things to upgrade and then poof gone. Might as well just stop playing at that point.
>>336384643
I would say the exact same thing word for word. I knew of the reputation before the purchase but I still wanted to at least support the genre and physical release. Oh well, at least I got a pillow case out of it.
>>336382974
>4
>above anything
Shittiest point of the series.
I have still not finished the SNES version of Gradius III. I think the farthest I've been is the second to last level. Somehow beat the Arcade version of the original though. How is IV and V?
Been waiting for a new one for fucking ages it feels like
Bring back the big name STGs
>>336382828
>The crystal maze
Never even got that far. I don't know how anyone can even get past the third stage.
>>336383798
I haven't had anything to do with SHMUPs since the 90s. I hope you're exaggerating.
>>336385079
Oh, I also forgot to mention - Konami Morning Music is my alarm clock ringtone on my phone. I don't think I'll ever change it.
Sometimes I feel a touch of whimsy to think that 30 years ago, there were arcades all across Japan which had that music playing every morning at some point.
I have Parodius for a while now and recently bought Gradius III, both for SNES.
I really like both, but they are almost identical. I give Parodius the edge over Gradius just for its uniqueness.
>you will never see a dark and gritty reboot of Gradius handled by your usual western AAA studio featuring the voices and likenesses of Nolan North, Steven Blum, and Kevin Spacey
I wanted to see how Murrican developers would play off SPEHS RUSSHANS seriously. That's all the Americans fixate on, the Russians.
>>336385332
It's not an exaggeration. Look what they did to Dodonpachi.
Gradius 3 for the SNES was my all time fav
>>336385476
It's not the 1980s anymore, comrade.
Now it's all about allah snackbar.
>>336385476
Nah man, these days we're fixated on sand niggers and sometimes Chinamen.
>>336385610
>>336385702
But you could say that Gofer is actually Lenin's severed head.
>>336385212
How? The SNES version is the easier of the two. 4 is trash tier, 5 is amazing. Easily one of the best in the series. Treasure does Gradius justice.
>>336385190
The real question is how did they go from Gaiden to back to basics IV
>>336379268
I'm an immense casual: the post
>>336384464
>xopachi
ma nigga
>>336385728
>How? The SNES version is the easier of the two.
You got me. Maybe I'm backwards when it comes to Gradius. I'll got the Arcade version of Gradius III a shot, I've heard it's a lot harder, so maybe I can beat it.
best shmups ever made probably
If this isn't your favorite OST you don't know SHIT about video games
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mb4OaffN-y4
>>336384078
It's not cute at all, not with those repulsive graphics.
>>336383108
There's actually a hidden cheat code that turns off that stage and makes the difficulty closer to the arcade.
I have no idea how to activate it, but I DID do it once.
You should start with Life Force on the NES or even Gradius 1 arcade if you want something easier.
>>336385726
You could say he's the strongest.
>>336385896
Oh wait, you said arcade version of Gradius, not Gradius 3. Misread that, sorry.
I recommend you beat Gradius 3 for SNES before even attempting the arcade version. To this day I can't beat it, and I've finished the SNES version on its highest difficulty multiple times.
>>336386254
He's just a small portion of the empire Soviet Union.
>>336385419
Parodius is quite funny but creepy at the same time.
>>336385818
I don't know. For some reason Konami went full retard during that time. They raped Contra as well.
Can we take a moment to think about how influential Gradius was? It's actually kind of underrated in that aspect.
It's the game that influenced composers like Yuzo Koshiro, it's Kamiya's favorite game ever, it influenced R-Type, which went on to influence even more games. There's probably even more I can't think of right now.
>>336384315
It was a weird generation.
Wii was too underpowered, PS3 architecture was too complicated, so that just left the 360.
>>336386502
Wasn't it the first game to feature a rank system?
>>336386639
I think it's the most noticeable one, but I believe even Xevious already had one.
I think it's one of the first games where you can really influence it on purpose, though.
>>336386548
They ported Castle of Shikigami 3 to Wii, I don't get why the rest of these shmups would be considered too powerful for it.
>>336386176
I'll actually do that. Thanks anon.
By the way since you seem to know a lot about gradius: what do you do when you die? I just can't continue when they kill me, the vic viper just gets too gimped without all the upgrades
>>336386502
I thought Kamiya's favorite game was Space Harrier
>>336386887
Someone last year asked him what his GOTY was and he just linked a PSN release of Gradius 1.
He also tweets about Gradius from time to time apart from that.
>>336386873
What we all do, hit reset. When you die, you're up shit creek without a paddle.
>>336386768
CS3 was running on 2004 hardware. Wii wouldn't have been able to run Cave's SH3 games.
>>336387065
Gradius 1 is actually somewhat well balanced when it comes to recovering. I've done it a few times.
Only the later ones really require resets.
>>336386753
Xevious is super noticeable. Within the first few minutes due to how you perform you can get radically different enemies.
>>336387210
Oh, and it's also pretty much the only game where Double is good. It's really powerful once you got more than 1 option.
>>336387065
Well fug, that's what I did in Gradius II anyway. Thanks again
>>336387210
Oh yeah, I forgot that Gradius 1 was better about that.
Fun fact: One of Shinobu Yagawa's (of Battle Garegga fame, among others) first games was a Gradius clone.

I know I'm hours late but I fucking wish school kids will just stay out of discussion thread
Like the games but I only finished a single one.
>>336378895
pretty amazing for it's time. one of the best NES shooter and also one of my favorite with r-type 3 on snes. i miss old games discussions, i could go on /vr/ but it's slow as shit
