The xbox one is hands down the best controller ever made, from controls to material used.
Just face it the PS4, wii U controllers are not innovative or special in any way, they are just cheap knock offs.

After using all of them, I'd put current gen controllers in this order:
PS4 > Xbone > Wii U
ds4 has a soshul meeda button so fuck it
Really like Xbone, but bumpers are its weak point
Like WiiU pro, but triggers+bumpers often get stuck, especially the gamepad bumpers.
PS4 is pretty good too but damn do the thumbsticks feel cheap

I've been meaning to pick up a new controller for my PC. I'd get the Elite if it wasn't $150, and I haven't heard much about the Xbone controller being worth the extra $15 over the 360. Should I stick with just getting a 360 controller? I heard the Xbone's is a little small, so that also has me worried.
i can agree its the best for 3d games, but for 2d? literally nothing beats a snes controllers. and not the shitty euro/jap one, im talking the american pad with the concave buttons for maximum grip and comfy

Own both the Xbone and DS4. I can honestly say that the Xbone controller is one of the best I've ever used and, by far, the best out of the current generation. As far as the L1 and R1 buttons on the Xbone go, I honestly don't see the what the issue is. I have pretty big hands though, so that's probably a contributing factor.
The dualshock 4 isn't bad by any means, but my left thumb stick is starting to tear and I find both of them to get slippery even after a modest playing session. Also my R1 button tends to get stuck sometimes, but that may just be unique to my mine. Sucks though because I only ever really use the thing for DOA5 and Souls games.

What games would you even use the D-Pad a lot in besides a fighting game? Besides third-person action-adventurers and RPGs, I don't know what I'd use the controller for, but even those typically don't rely on the D-Pad much besides occasional hot switching or item management.

i don't know much about no controllers since i don't own any of them but from what I remember the playstation controller was this tiny fucking device with sharp edges that hurt yours hands to use because it was made for tiny asian children's hands, while the HUEG LIKE XBAWKZ controller was comfortable but heavy as fuck due to the size and whatever the hell they loaded in there (goddamn rocks?)
and I haven't owned a nintendo since like the super nintendo and have no idea they still had normal controllers. isn't Nintendo all about making WAGGLAN gimmick controllers that you WAGGLE or have a screen in the controller so you can stare at a tiny gameboy screen instead of stare at your tv because whoever came up with that idea was a grade-a fucking dipshit?

I keep on thinking about getting the xbox one controller but they're asking way too much for it. And the elite price is absurd.
I'm a Sonybro, and liked all the Sony previous controllers except the DS4. I don't like the options button, the touch pad is meh, I always click the wrong side.
If you're playing something like Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3, and you're next to an npc, you better not put the controller down, or else you'll end up strong attacking them in the face.

Love my ds4, but they aren't built well. Between myself and friends/coworkers I've fixed about a half dozen. Granted they tend to be easy fixes, but it shouldn't be an issue in the first place

Th controller takes a lot of time getting used to, but the best thing is the software that comes with it.
I seriously can't wrap my head around it how many fucking customization there is.
Just one simple example, you can customize that by going closer to the edge of the pads it registers a button press. Say you want to move in a dark souls like game with the pad.
