I'm somewhat new to Tales. My first and only game so far is Tales of the Abyss and I played it 2nd player co-op with a friend who was a veteran at it. What's bad about Zestria? I was considering picking it up later.

It's not a bad game but it's not really good either. The problem is, a lot of people put the first Symphonia in a fucking pedestal like it was the best thing to happen to RPGs ever (it isn't even that good, not even the best Tales of game) and the expectations for DotNW were too high.
Also, Emil is an annoying fuck at the start of the game but is one of the few Tales of characters with actual development.

Emil was irritating. His constant shifting between crybabby little grill and edgy faggot got old really fast.
The old cast being completely nerfed in battle was also shit.
The sidequest things got really fucking repetitive with the same 5 maps or so being recycled over and over again.
Other than that it was alright.
