An 8/10 game is solid but slightly disappointing. An 8.5/10 is wholly satisfactory and enjoyable if nothing innovative. A 9/10 is more than enjoyable, it's fresh and invigorating.

I don't entirely agree with Jim Sterling, but he's right that this is a fairly unoriginal game without the gimmicks. No gimmicks would definitely be more fun, and certainly be less frustrating, than it is.
But I'd guess the press would give that game an 8.0.

Seriously sonic has had some bad games after heroes but he has gotten a lot better in recent years sans boom. Don't know where this sonic hate came from.
