The gameshark I used I was CD that I put on the console before booting up the actual game, and I never had to write a single line of code because every (useful) cheat for any given game was already on the gameshark, I just had to choose which ones to apply to the game.

Multiplayer online. You can use gameshark to gain some kind of advantage.
I remember Borderlands being shit on the PS3 because everyone fucking one used save edits online. Like shields that never depleted or weapons with 999999999999 damage, some guys even dropped these items for me while playing coop.
>>
the gameshark is essentially a hardware debugger, it allows you to write a value to a location in memory.

i think it should be theoretically possible to use a gameshark to create and run your own programs, kind of like those people who do "code injection" in games like super mario world or pokemon red. does anyone know if anyone has tried the same kind of thing with a gameshark? i'd think it'd be easier than the more common hacky button mashing code injection schemes.
>>

I remember I had a Bomberman 64 guide and it didn't even tell you how to get to the hidden palace or access the two hidden multiplayer stages.

This. After xbox live gameshark wasn't around no more. Same with the playstation underground with button cheats. They all went away. People soft and hard modded after that with action replay.

Too bad.

I am probably the only person to have experienced blood on snes mortal kombat

there was a game genie code that made the sweat red, that is well known. but I found an action replay code that made the "sweat" fall like blood again, and you could combine AR and GG to use both codes

it would crash the game a lot but i had splashy red blood on SNES mortal kombat and probably nobody else in the entire world ever did.
>>
>>336200565
Cheat engine on PC you can alter values directly on the RAM while the program still is active, that's why it's detected as a virus. I'm not sure, but I guess gameshark works similarly by inputting predetermined hexadecimal values on the console's RAM or altering them in real time.

Using cheat engine to manually mess with the game's allocated memory to try to create new cheats is actually pretty fun.I've spent countless hours messing with somewhat random binary, decimal and hexadecimal values.

Of course, if you do that on an online game, you will get banned for sure because is extremely easy to detect this kind of cheat.

but its true about games

think about it, ours is a fucking baby, only about 40 years old. the best years of it were from 1980 to about 2000 where we saw all the growth of gameplay, new genres, new innovations.

i was lucky to experience all of it and it really was something special. kids these days just can't understand the magic of finding a hidden gem and also the frustration of not finding a game in nintendo power and renting it for a weekend of torture.

i don't know if he has them anymore, but back in 1987 a friend and i made maps for metroid with a shit ton of graphing paper. like 15-20 pages all taped together. that was a fucking adventure, finding new shit and updating our maps as time went on.
