That's because the pacing was god awful. Cutscenes dragged on for way too long, story archs were going nowhere, characters would continuously have the same conversations. The game forces you to slow down with an already slow storyline. Not to mention the quests were really bland and boring.
The common argument I've heard about that game is that "It gets good after 30 hours" But I'm not going to waste 30 hours of my life on boring repetitive shit.

Played Xenoblade for 120 hours, didn't even finished it, quited just before recruiting the cat people.
It started as a solid 8/10 and became a 5/10 after so many hours of repetitive simple side quests.
The story is shit, nothing ever happens, you literally fail in every single chapter.

Shit dialogues, all the quests in this game suck, even the character ones with VOs.
The combat starts slow but interesting, sadly you quickly realise some builds are OP as shit and break the game.
Skell combat is hilariously bad.
Only active party members gain XP, it's impossible to have them all around the same lvl without overlevelling yourself.

Hardly. The affinity quests only existed to make up for the fact that the story quests didn't characterize the bloated roster at all. They were mostly shit anyways

That's 95% of the affinity quests. The normal quests were certainly an upgrade over Xenoblade, but they're still not particularly interesting and are still a pain in the ass to get. Xenoblade made it abundantly clear that the player was NOT supposed to complete every quest, or even the majority of them; they were just incentives for exploration. X tried to make the quests a much larger component of the game but failed to make them compelling in a way that supports that. Basically, Xenoblade did a lot more with a lot less and X attempted to use the quests as a crutch for what was an embarrassingly weak story and hollow characters.
The 200 hour+ RPG fags who think gameplay is all about shifting through menus probably don't even have the reflexes of brain capacity to handle something as fast pace and intense as Star Fox Zero.

There are dozens of quests that justify killing the animal life and only a handful that really speak out against it. The idea was to realistically portray how people might react to disturbing the ecosystem of an alien environment. You get both sides of the issue.
