Who knows? It's ambiguous, but in MG1 Big Boss has a conveniently shitty memory even before he switches to a different frequency, so the idea that Venom is the one trying to stop Solid Snake against Big Boss's efforts isn't supported by the game.

Threads from the past two days have really made me realize I hate Kojima. I'm a lifelong MGFag and was probably more hyped about MGSV than anyone. I don't know if I've ever been more excited about anything and even though I thought MGS4 was dogshit, I called Kojima a genius.
I now see how wrong I was. Kojima ruined Metal Gear, not Konami. Kojima is a fucking joke and I hope his new company sinks to the bottom of the heartless sea just like Mother Base.

The fact Venom is never mentioned again, despite being intentional as his thematic status as a "phantom" is one thing. Solid (and Liquid in particular) never knowing is another.

Not really. You see Big Boss's sprite disappear as per usual and then Snake gets the fuck out. But you even see dialogue from Big Boss afterwards about meeting Snake again that leaves his fate ambiguous. He appears in MG2, revealing he survived (the game offers a reference to Snatcher as an explanation, but it ultimately isn't necessary). Besides, you know who else had a disappearing sprite that appeared in a later game? Gray Fox. It didn't really matter.

Going with that line of logic, and the general flow of the Metal Gear series, Venom would have appeared, alive, in the next Metal Gear game had there had been one.
Maybe he survives Outer Heaven's explosion somehow, goes into hiding, and resurfaces as Big Boss after the events of MGS4.

My point is that characters reappear all the time with even less set-up than Big Boss who at least had a line of dialogue to establish his possible survival. Gray Fox was literally dead and he still came back. Madnar is another example. The series didn't need to shoehorn in Faux Boss in order to explain a survival that needed no explanation.
This is kind of a retarded question but why is he called venom snake? They shouldve just kept calling him naked snake or big boss if they wanted him to believe he was the boss.

I recently bought a 2nd hand ps3 so I could play MGS4 and 1 (hadn't played since the ps1 era) and it's worth it. Fun game, but after playing +100h of V you miss the controls and some of the mechanics. It's still good tho, best gameplay in the 1-4 saga. (inb4 >mgs4 >gameplay)
