Gentle reminder that progress on Starbound resumed months ago and the game has been progressing at light speed. It's better than Terraria in every aspect at this point, and 1.0 is set to be released within months.

Terrariacucks blown the fuck out in every conceivable way. It's over. Gentle reminder that Otherworld was supposed to be out by now as well, but it's abandonware at this point. There will be no Terraria 2. Starbound will have continued support for years.

It's over. Based Tiy won.

My only problem with it is that due to everything being randomized the progression is a little fucked. nothing, game was even close to perfection, just like Demon's Souls

the only gripe it could have levied against it, is that the content was spread out in patches, otherwise...

>Dirt cheap (huehue)

>one of the few games to successfully 'have it all' : world building, progress scaling, branching paths of progress, random world events, good balance of lethality, character customization, meaningful multiplayer and lots of replayability

>I'LL SAY IT AGAIN

>NO

>DLC

>it's 10 dollars

sorry bruh, theres a reason for the 100 thousand Terraria clones on Steam store now
>>
>>336130056
In exchange for that one dimension, Terraria has easily ten times the content and mechanics that Minecraft has. I guess that's what happens when the creator of the game isn't a fat swede who'd rather go on vacation and have office Nerf-gun wars than finish his fucking game.
>>
>>336130151
It's also a game that has gone on sale for >$5 every fucking steam sale for as long as I can remember. I bought the game for $2 years ago, and since then they've released a bunch of major content updates.

Compare this to Minecraft, that has less than half the content in terms of collectable materials, enemy types, NPCs, pre generated environments, and equipment tiers. Or Starbound, which has gotten better, but permanently shot its own credibility in the leg with its garbage initial release and developer lies.

Terraria is the only one of these three common games that has actually delivered on its promise.
>>
>>336129512
To be fair, Terraria 1.2.4.1 was considered done, and was supposed to be the final update. The only reason we even got 1.3 was because Red's wife HATES Tiy, and wanted to show him up when he abandoned them to found Chucklefish.

It's dumb as shit. Everything about it screams 3 hour XNA hack job. It plays frustratingly counterintuitive, the premise is retarded, it's a classic example of a game that's only fun when you play it with friends.

Starbound, not even having a laugh.

It's woefully incomplete, but it's one that comes closest to being playable. For how simple Terraria is every clone seems to get it so wrong that it ends up being unplayable. Edge of Space and Planet Centauri are the best examples (although I haven't touched Centauri since January, but it was BRUTALLY bad at that point).

>>
>>336132165
It's gotten better since it's catastrophic release, yes, but it's only become tolerable, not good.

Enemies are all the same under the hood, and the same goes for planets. It's bizarre how a game with and infinite universe of star systems and planets and moons could have so little variety. Once you've explored one planet of any given biotype, you may as well have explored them all. There's certainly no reason to head to any planet of that type ever again.

Starbound is nothing but a forward progression through its different environments. There's no real reason to stick around and explore or create until you've hit the end of the progression, and have nothing else to do.

It makes more sense from a gameplay perspective to customize the limited space of your ship than build anything on one of the cookie cutter planets.
>>
>>336124806
nothing?
>>
>>336133217
>Better
Debatable. More content I'll grant. But most of the content is reskinned graphical stuff that has no bearing on gameplay, while the gameplay itself has taken notable nosedives.

It's really a case of 1 step forward 2 steps back. Contact damage and half-speed movement backwards alone make the game worse than the release version.
>>

For that matter, are the weapons still a fucking chore to use?
Are the enemies (and bosses for that matter) still dumb as rocks and pathetically easy?
Is the game still "go to five samey looking areas to progress your tier to the next one, so you can go to another samey looking planet with *better ore*?
After a few hours do all of the "procedurally generated" enemies still look the same?
Is there still absolutely no reason to build anything on a planet because you'll be moving on to a new one within the hour, and even then there are better prebuilt structures on every planet?
Is there a reason to choose a race other than how they look yet?

Man, you're that desperate to justify your purchase, eh?

And you still spent more time playing Terraria.
>>
>>336124806
I know that terraria never tool itself seriously, but I dislike that a yoyo, or the Nyan cat sword do more damage than the true nights edge or what ever it was called. Making that sword was a fucking huge acomplishment, and now you can get something that easily out preforms it from a fairly easly enemy during the eclips event.

The game's progression is really dumb. Fishing already lets you bypass the first half of the game effortlessly.

Hardmode progession is stupid as well.

In the beginning, you could skip crafting certain pickaxes, saving your ore for more important shit. Then hardmore happens and you need to craft every fucking one. At least you no longer have to fuse them together to make Hallowed.

And fishing is really nothing more than farming in an RPG. It'll only break the game if you abuse it, and at that point it's your own fault.

Its pretty good, but overrated. Here are a few things that went wrong.

-Game is actually quite linear, but tries to hide this
-The PC controls are pretty fucking frustrating, for a combat oriented game
-Starting a new game is a miserable experience, as you will spend the first 5 hours grinding before having any fun
-High learning curve, the game explains literally almost nothing in-game, forcing you to use the wiki
-The block placing is tedious and somehow more autistic than MC

Solid 7/10, a lot of fun at first but wears off quickly

Starbound fags are the worst, they can't understand how they've been duped. They will continue to claim their game is still worth something, let alone better than terraria while fully understanding the fact that starbound lacks content and polish. They know the reasons why the game is dogshit but can't come to terms with the reality that they've given money to lazy con artists.

Starbound is unfinished, looks awful, animates like a damned flash game and feels like one. Starbound fags will never ever have any ground to stand on when it comes to the games quality in comparison to terraria. The game might be worth 2$ on a sale when its actually for real finished.

Terraria simply has too much content, items and solid gameplay. Starbound is worse in each of those catagories. Terraria is even getting an eventual sequel and will probably be out by the time starbound gets close to "finishing". Starbound should only be bought if you're absolutely desperate for some more terraria after you complete its mountain of content, even then you should pirate it.

Failed in that it was only a cash grab and didn't produce anything spectacular or better than what is out on the market. Failed because they didn't even finish what was promised and lacks content.

Of course the scam Succeeded, people are retarded. But in every other aspect starbound has failed and has failed many of its customers. I wonder when they'll finish the game if ever.

Its shocking how quickly starbound proves its awful. I refunded it after 45 minutes, the way the character controls and animates is disgustingly bad, that alone is enough to know its shit. >-Game is actually quite linear, but tries to hide this
It's called a progression curve. And it's the only game in it's genre (terraria and it's clones) that does it right.
>-The PC controls are pretty fucking frustrating, for a combat oriented game
Never had a problem with them ever.
>-Starting a new game is a miserable experience, as you will spend the first 5 hours grinding before having any fun
If you've played through the game multiple times then yes, starting out is a huge chore. If you're playing it for the first time then it's fine. Since everything is new and there's a ton of different stuff you get on the way that makes it bearable in comparison to pre-1.1/1.2.
>-High learning curve, the game explains literally almost nothing in-game, forcing you to use the wiki
I'll agree that the game doesn't explain much. And that you'll miss out on alot of things that could have made your experience smoother if you used the wiki. You also take out half the fun of exploring and finding shit out for yourself in your first playthrough if you use the wiki.
>-The block placing is tedious and somehow more autistic than MC
I can agree on that. Also the reason i don't face houses. Takes too much time and is pretty tedious even if you have planned it out in advance.

Riminishing Returns on fun.
Once you figure out how the games works, you get less and less satisfaction from doing anything.
The reason for this is compound, someone mentioned, is that access to certain items fucks up progression.
Also, early game is too easy to sky rocket through. an experienced player will just immediately find that "rare" clay, make pots, then instantly go to the jungle for moonglow.
You'll have spelunker potions as soon as you find one gold or plat deposit.

Finding ore is too easy.
It's sad when a mod (Avalon) does progression better than the actual devs.

Final boss is a bit of a grind to acquire all of the endgame items.
The whole endgame series of events happen a little too quickly.

>access to certain items fucks up progression
Mate, we can fish a molten pickaxe-tier shark out of the ocean straight up. Early game progression has, over time, become less and less of an issue as there's a million and one ways to progress. If anything, constantly discovering new and inventive ways to circumvent, break, fuck up, and twist progression is half the fun of early game.

>an experienced player will just immediately find that "rare" clay
Nig, clay is a dirt type and isn't rare at all. Not even "rare".

>make pots, then instantly go to the jungle for moonglow
Literally never done this. Of course, I'm not some insane speedrunner, and I tend to go at a snail's pace, but I've played Terraria for nigh on 3000 hours now. Most people don't even bother with the early game ores, even silver or platinum. It's easy enough to just take on the Eater of Worlds without any armour at all.

>somehow a bad thing
Mate, fishing runs are legitimate alternate ways to play the game. In a fishing run, you will never: Have random goblin invasions, have random pirate invasions, have meteorites landing all over the place and wrecking everything, have random pockets of hallow or corruption everywhere underground (meaning only the V from defeating the Wall of Flesh and pre-existing corruption will exist, making it infinitely easier to contain them, if you want), and the Mech Bosses won't randomly turn up at night time to wreck your shit if you're not prepared.

That said, fishing runs take a shit tonne of preparation, understanding of the system, and time to go through, so abusing it isn't so much a possibility when it pretty much exists as an alternate form of progression.

Its fine anon, if you ever feel like actually building, use something basic at first like stone blocks and such, and use a lot of furniture, make some plans and then try and make them. Biome megahouses are always great, but just digging down a apartment complex is more practical, try and make one after you have all the NPC's housed, its quite fun.

I can get to hard mode in about 45 minutes depending on the map.

Might take longer than 3 hours but I'm sure you can do it in 10

Yeah, that one probably took me around 11 hours across 4 days.

If I could add one thing it would be a tool that allows you to place blocks in a certain pattern centered around your cursor. Like you could set it to place 2x2 blocks, or L blocks, or anything else.

When you're making big thing the biggest pain in the ass is scaling half the map 4 times just to make a 4 wide wall.
