WoW's been out for 12 years and has six expansions. The content has been: lvl 1-60, 61-70, 71-80, 81-85, 86-90, and 90-100. The upcoming content will be 101-110. The idea is all relevant content is at the current expansion's eng-game and pre-lvl 100 content is irrelevant and nobody wants to play through it anymore when rerolling a new character or server, so they've made leveling extremely easy; you can go from lvl 1 to 100 in as little as a few hours with all exp boosting items or a few days without them. The lvl 100 boost is just there for people who are too impatient.

Having the same weapon sounds pretty damn boring. It's already the case for leveling with a lot of account gear. It pretty much removes items from the game if you wear the same shit that scales with you all the time. One of the most exciting moments in raids is to see a good weapon drop, this will be gone. I was farming old raids to get sets just like anyone else when it was new, but I think the game would be better if there was no transmog. It really takes the value of items in my eyes and turns it more into the sims, but I can still see the appeal for people to want skins. Vanilla lvling wasn't hard. You just had a lot more group quests, needed to go to many zones around your level instead of linear progressing, had to drink and eat after 2 mobs and the movement speed was a lot slower. It was simply more annoying.
I leveled during vanilla and recently on nost. Literally the only good thing vanila lvling has over current lvling is that you need to talk to people to get group quests going and it wouldn't work in current wow because there's not enough new players to lvl with.
