/v/ I'm building a budget pc and have a question. Would a fx 6300/8320e bottleneck a r9 390?

Just curious

Depends on the game, anything with well implemented multithreading will run fine, anything that relies on high single threaded performance will run like shit, you don't want to play ArmA 3 on any AMD processor.

I'd recommend going with an i5 or waiting for Zen.

If you do get an FX be sure to get an aftermarket cooler, the stock one is loud as fuck and performs very poorly, it's very easy to install though.
>>
they run great on dx12

that means windows 10 tho
>>
Thanks. I don't play games like arma anyway. Tbh I'm trying to get away from console gaming but it's tough. I barely play a lot of pc games anyway so it's tough to justify the extra $100 for an Intel
>>
>>336119994
god yes
i have 8320 @ 4.2GHz, it's a good cpu and it was definitely worth it (price/performance ratio), but in many games you won't hit stable 60fps. If you're going as high-end as 390, you should get a proper i5 that handles anything because of superior single-threaded performance.
Yes, game devs are finally learning about multithreaded programming, but it's still better to be prepared for those few guys who still suck.
>>
Actually I just found a guy on cal with these specs for $425

Decent?

3570K OC to 4.2
Cooler Master 212 evo CPU cooler
Asrock Z77 pro3 motherboard
Crucial 8gb Ram
Gigabyte radeon 3gb 280x video card
Antec 620w PSU
64GB SSD OS drive
1TB HD
MSI Tactical tc303 ATX case
IO Gear bluetooth 4.0 adapter
DVD rewriteable drive
Windows 10

I have the same cpu with a 660 gtx, i was thinking of upgrading to 960/970.

Is that too much?
>>
>>336121441
960/970

wow you must love to be cucked.
>>
>>336121441
I'm using this [email protected] with gtx770 which is 960 performance-wise. In many games, it's not bottlenecked too much. Then again, it depends on game you're playing. Mainstream shtty-written crap like Thief is literally unplayable on AMD cpus, properly-written racing sims i often play are running in constant 60fps, using maybe 40% of CPU.

8350 at 4.4ghz and 290x here and most games run under 60 fps at lioke 50 - 60 fps

if i had an i5 i'd be on 60 fps or higher consistently.
>>
>>336121441
Have a 660 and 8320 too. Fucking hate this CPU so much. It overheats so easily despite putting in new thermal paste. Super loud stock fan.

get an aftermarket cooler HUUURRRRRRRRRRRRR

anon please
it's like $30 for 212

unless it comes with Wraith cooler, which is on par with hyper 212 evo.

Now is a terrible time to build a PC. New gpus come out soon and will force the price of other gpus down.

Wait.
>>
>>336122429
yeah, maybe except running at fucking 99999rpm, making your computer just as loud as jet engine

also, <120w tdp FXes like 6xxx are (or were) sold with crappy aluminium one. Dunno if still are.

>>336122501
>new gpus coming out
>don't buy, you should wait for prices to go down
>prices going down
>don't buy, new gpus coming out soon
no, fuck this shit. waiting months just to save $50 is retarded
>>
>>336119994
Built a PC with a 8320E OC to 4.2GHz and a GTX970. Once I made the switch to an i5 4690k, my frame rate skyrocketed in several games. Literally doubled.

Wait for Zen or buy Intel.
>>
>>336122059
Yea I got a cooler 2 weeks after.

>>336121672
I see I should upgrade my cpu then.. I was hoping for a new gpu and +8 gb ram
>>
>>336122501
The bigger problem is console ports making 6 to 8GB VRAM standard due to the consoles' unified 8GB.

Next gen GPUs will most likely have 8GB for even mid-high range cards, and Zen will be out. Wait until next year OR buy a 390 8GB and an i5 4690k to steer clear of bottlenecks.
>>
>>336122846
No, you should do your research. Pick the games you want to play, google CPU benchmarks for this game (techspot usually does it right), check if performance is acceptable.

And having over 8 gigs of ram for games is dumb, no game utilizes it. Then again, ram is super cheap.

That's a high end card. If you're going for that card you might as well wait a bit until you can afford a good cpu. The FX cpus have been severely gimped ever since they first released and should only be used on actual budget builds.

I can't recommend AMD cpu anymore, especially not when paired with AMD GPU.
They're just plain bad.
>>
>>336123769
stock 3570 is worse than 4460, and 4460 is something around 8350 multi-threaded performance. Except badly coded games, you'll get worse (multithreaded) performance than on AMD cpu, and that's bad.

What is your budget?

From what I have read on the past weeks amd cpu are old, bad and not worth because if you want to compete with intel you will need more expensive motherboards, coolers and psu to overclock.

Instead I bought a used i5 3470 (upgrading from a pentium g2030), it isn't nothing to be proud, but I'm sure will handle my shit video card quite well, for 1/3 of the price if I had to get a cpu from another socket.

I'm not sure how accurate this chart is, but I'm posting it anyways.
>>
>>336126719
To be clear I already had a pretty decent 1155 motherboard, with sata 3.0, usb 3.0, 4 ram slots, etc. If your mobo is shit it might be more worth to change it all together.
>>
>>336123998
>Same price as i3
>Overclockable
>60fps+ in everything but GTA5
Comparing it to an i5 is just retarded.

>>336119994
Overclocked FX6300 is the most bang for the buck CPU you can buy.
It will bottleneck in some games, but so will i5 costing twice as much.
Most CPU hungry games right now are Rainbow Six Siege and GTA V. Those bottleneck my 390 even on a 4.5GHz 2500k.
>>
>>336123824
this

Wait for June. Polaris 10 aka 480x will offer 980ti performance for $300-ish
>>
>>336119994
For 60 fps it's ok but 120/144 are not possible as you'll cap out between 90 to 100, in particularly when running a mouse with high polling rate. If you do go AMD you definitely have to get a decent cooler and overclock - without it's a super mediocre CPU and you'll have a bad time when having anything next to the game open.
