Her story was completely dropped when they remade the entire game half-way through development and they didn't really give her a new story in it's place.
Originally you were supposed to do some time travel shenanigans and meet her as a little girl. You would give her the feather in the past and then it would have actually meant something when she gives you the Aged Feather near the end of the game.
