I disagree about msaa + post AA being the best combo (I prefer a post AA & temporal filter combo like SMAA T2x in CryEngine or Temporal SMAA from Watchdogs) but surely you can see the need for an option to disable it or use a different method, right?

Temporal is flat out garbage, literal blur and nothing more.
You are beyond retarded if you like that garbage.
Also Quantum Break uses the actual proper deferred MSAA implementation that was introduced in DX10.1 (not DX11, DX10.1) that allowed for MSAA to also do alpha layer transparency antialiasing.
STALKER Clear Sky has it as well for example and look how good it looks, native 1080p literally no supersampling of any kind, just 4x MSAA with alpha coverage.

Did you play Alan Wake? You NEED MSAA in it otherwise all geometry dithers a ton. 2xMSAA might as well be 0xMSAA. 4xMSAA fixes the dithering issue entirely, 8xMSAA is ideal though.

Temporal is as good as it's implementation

Most use temporal aa after the post-aa like fxaa or smaa; that's when things get blurry

Watchdogs' way of doing it seems to be different, because it's as 'blurry' as smaa, but with no flickering!
