Does anyone know any games in the new Steam sale around the same price as this that are worth recommending? I'm trying to decide if I should return it or not; it's very similar to Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae (which I already own) in its core engagement and simplicity, and I think I like that game more despite its camera issues.

I mainly bought it because I liked Astebreed and wanetd to support the developers, and the game's fine; but I'm wondering if there's better stuff around the same price range. Any recs?

I'm playing LiEat
its pretty cute
>>
>>336029774
Kamui gets a lot more shit for the same issues (arenas instead of levels, repetitive enemies) but I prefer that game's suited goons with Daft punk helmets (kind of a Cutie Honey vibe slaughtering them), giant buff stone dudes, robots etc to the goofy-ass golems in this game.

And yes I know Freesia is more Smash Bros than DMC, but they still feel very similar to me.
>>
I got Phantom Breaker: Battle Ground and the DLC.
It's generic and button mashy as fuck, kinda regret it but whatever, it was 5 bucks.
Astebreed worth getting if you're all that into bullet hell games?

I've been thinking of Gunhound EX but a lot of people say that one is shit for whatever reason?
>>336029969
I generally don't play RPGs unless the combat system is fun

Would you say that applies to LiEat?

I basically lost all trust on the localization scene and a firendship over the removal of that Loli simulator. No way giving money to those pricks
>>
>>336030142
I said I already own Astebreed and I love everything about it which is why I bought Freesia to begin with, it's also by Edelweiss.

I wouldn't call Astebreed bullet hell, it has bullet hell ELEMENTS but it's more Sin & Punishment than Cave. Gameplay's fun as fuck, fantastic visuals and art direction, I even like the cheesy-ass anime characters and story.

Shmup fags give it a lot of shit because there is some memorization required for enemy/boss patterns, but the same applies to Dariusburst (the Thousand-types and their unpredictable dickish green beam attack for example) and that one gets a lot less flak for it from the same clique.

Oh and in case someone menions that, I know Gurumin is good but I already have it from the winter sale.
>>336030394
What Loli simulator? You mean that dumb goat simulator clone? It's still there.

If it's some other game, then why hate all indie localizers because one of them is pozzed?
>>
>>336030302
Nah, it seems like the standard RPG combat.
But the CGs, characters, music and dialogue are all great, the aesthetic is definitely really strong. Its apparently not too long though
>>
>>336030716
Cool, I'll give it a try.
I know you said you already had it, that's why I asked if it was worth getting.
Reading comprehension, man.

Seriously though, thanks, I'll give it a whirl.

>I got Phantom Breaker: Battle Ground and the DLC.
I considered getting this because I liked the sprites but decided not to when I saw the lack of online for co-op multiplayer.

There are bajillions of great arcade beat-em-ups I CAN play online with emulators for free, so that's kind of a deal breaker.
>>
>>336029774
that game was shitty as fuck. Why would anyone recommend it?
>>
>>336031153
I liked the art too, and I'm a sucker for combo-heavy level-up games.

Sorry ;_;

It's really really good, my only big issues are that

1. You can't properly reconfigure the keys if you don't have a gamepad, unless you use something like AutoHotKey or the fan-made Astebreed key binder (google "Astebreed WASD")

2. The final boss is kind of a big difficulty spike especially on Hard mode (I've yet to 1CC it purely because of the final boss)

3. "Restart game" option sometimes takes too long but that might be my shit computer, I mistook it for a crash at first

I reviewed it here pretty in-depth: http://steamcommunity.com/id/headcrabrape/recommended/283680/

Oh and if you have a PS4 get it there since that version is sadly better.
>>
>>336031183
I liked Astebreed and I remember liking Ether Vapor in 2006 when I pirated off a /v/-linked /rs/ so since this is made by the same people I expected this to be more of the same sort of thing in a different genre, but it's... not as good. Really really basic in its level structure, while the other two feel like full-fledged arcade games and not as stylish as Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae which makes up for how simple it is by just being cool as shit to play.
>>
>>336030142
>>336031153
If it's any consolation, online is in alpha testing, and you can get cancels and more combo abilities when you level up your character if you wanted to try it any further.
>>
>>336029691
I looked at the list without looking at the price tag, which tends to be the best judging method for quality for me. Here are some good games I recognize.

Disgaea
King of Fighters
Metal Slug
BlayBlue if you don't mind the fact that you'd pretty much be only be playing single player and local coop
200% Mixed Juice
Legend of Korra
Grandia II
Phantasy Star IV
Shantae
Umihara Kawase
Mushihisama
Sega Mega Drive/Genesis pack
Dark Souls 3

Nothing else interested me personally.
>>
>>336032649
200% mixed juice is on bundlestars right now for like $5 with a couple other okay games

I got Legend of Dark Witch from the same sale and I like it significantly more than Freesia. Nothing special about it beyond the Gradius power-up gimmick, but it's a pretty well-executed platformer with above-average sprites and art direction.
>>
>>336032649
Umihara Kawase is weird because the first one is just paying for a SNES rom I've had for years and the 2.5D one has really bad animation.
>>
>>336032649
>Dark Souls 3
>implying that's on sale
>local coop in a fighting game
>only pics the /v/-core niche games and mainstream games on his list

How does it feel being a tool?

Yeah fuck it, I'm gonna refund Freesia. I like the devs but I'd rather tell other people to buy Astebreed than keep a game I don't care for just because I want to give the devs money. If anything Freesia getting sales will give them the idea "make more games like Freesia" and I don't really want that unless they use the mechanics for a proper experience and not just arenas of color-swapped golems.

And holy fuck the character art is HIDEOUS. I'm normally not used to particularly good character art in Japanese indie games but this is some Christine Love social justice wank-fest VN-tier garbage.

Thankfully they got far better people to work on Astebreed's character art instead of... I dunno, a 15 year old girl they found on Pixiv.
>>
>>336033703
Dark Souls 3 actually is in the list, from what I recall; probably 5% off or something silly like that.
>>
>>336035091
Only if you buy Steam Controller meaning not actually a sale price and costing you more than buying it at regular price.
>>
Symphonia is $10 and I havent played it yet. Should I? The reviews are mixed
>>
>>336032807
>Get hit
>Fly to a pit with no way to move in air or save myself
>Die
>Repeat 2000 times
I fucking hate this game.

Yet, I really like it.
>>
>>336035736
It's a good game but it's port sucks. You can fix the port's issues easily tho.
>>
>>336035736
As a game, it's pretty fun and a great way to get into the Tales of series.

BUT, as a port, you'll spend a while modding it so you can play it decently. If you don't mind that, then yes, buy it.

Which level are you talking about? It happened to me a few times in the ice one but it wasn't a big issue.

What kinda bothered me was the first attack of the boss, those little ice balls can be impossible to dodge without the Fly upgrade and thus getting the no-damage achievement was pretty hard. But it felt good to finally have it so eh.

I wonder if you can get the "defeat the bosses without being damaged" achievements from the boss rush at the end? That would make things far simpler.

I bought Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds, I only have 5.98$ left in my steam wallet, what are some good recommendations?

Not going to check but One Way Heroics is probably on sale for like a dollar

Any opinions on Gunhound EX? Steam's community doesn't like it but rolling with their opinion is what made me expect Freesia to be better than Dark Witch and Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae (it wasn't)
>>
>>336039346
Woah this is cheap as fuck now

Get the plus DLC too if you like the base game because it adds a decent amount of stuff

im between these 3 shmups, any recommendations? most people say that mushihimesama is a must but im a little reluctant about paying 10 dollars for such an old game
>>
>>336039565
Mushihimesama is less indie and a lot more difficult. It's CAVE, you can't go wrong with it.

QP Shooting is CUTE and really fun. Totally worth its price, but it's also low budget as fuck. I really like it.

Haven't played eXceed3rd.

Honestly, $10 is a good price for Mushi.
>>
Is there anything in this sale that's similar to Castle In the Darkness/WonderBoy III The Dragon's Trap gameplay wise?
I was suggested Rabi Ribi, but that's really not like those 2 i mentioned
Also, even if it's a nice game, it's too weeb.
>>
>>336038425
Locked at 720/30fps
Can easily crash if you tab out of it.
Sometimes the game will switch the language to English for some items even if you have the game set to Spanish or French.
Sometimes the menus won't load any text.
>>
>>336039565
Mushi is not like other cave games.
In Mushi almost all the enemy attacks are aimed at you, and the shit is fast. Unlike other cave games with slow moving huge intricate patterns that are the same every time. I loved it.
>>
>>336039346

Holy shit just watching the trailer in steam stresses me out, not sure my blood pressure could handle trying to avoid a game over constantly like that. Those kinds of levels where touching the left side of the screen = death stress me out like no other.
>>
>>336040076
Pretty much all the bugs(except maybe the language switch for some items when using french or spanish) are fixed with TSFix
>>
>>336039285
If you told me 5 years, that steam would sell movies, I wouldn't have believed you.
>>
>>336039285
They already have an uncensored hgame on there. It's gonna happen.
>>
>>336040545
Movies and weeb games are one thing. Porn/hentai on the other hand will never go on steam. Not until people are still so offended by everything that has to do with sexuality, especially hentai. There are already people complaining on steam forums about all the anime styled games.

Besides when you install steam it asks if you're 13 years or older, they would have to add another section or something that checks if you're actually 18+ and I dunno how you would make it work. Parents would never allow it.
>>
How's Recettear lads?
>>
>>336040382
It's turn based, the levels are open and you move way faster than the darkness. It's not that much of a threat (Unless you get stuck near a mountain)
>>
>>336029691
Reccetear and Grandia 2 are the best games there
>>
>>336041000
Steam literally already has 2 uncensored pornographic games on it and a system to ask if you're 18 before it lets you see any content for a game.
>>
>>336030035
I'll second this. Kamui is one of my better picks from this sale.
>>
>>336041582
Kamui is also cheaper

The camera can be a problem and it would benefit from a God Hand-like minimap but it's more fun than Freesia in every other way AND cheaper
>>
>>336041124
I bought it and played it for a bit and it was fun but translated/published by goons who censor games and listen to a a horrible anime podcast for faggots
