Playing PC games on my 50" tv right now.

Monitor:Better refresh rate, more options, Better colours
TV:Built in speakers

My television from 2005 only goes up to 1366x768 and it was $400
my monitor from 2011 is 1920x1080 and it was $105

TV: more socially acceptable to have ensconced within an altar in your main living space

which is also a net benefit for those living in small accommodation

but some monitors come with built-in speakers?

CORRECT TIER LIST, IN ORDER FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.

PC with 3 or more monitors

MID TIER:
PC with medium TV
PC with 2 or more monitors

SHIT TIER:
PC with small TV
PC with 1 monitor
Console with normal TV

i find this hard to believe.
all the high end TVs have incredible colors especially the ones using new technology.

Pc with mid size monitor and huge TV for wii u. Wife plays wii u games while I play pc games, same room then use plex to cast to TV. She doesn't like any pc games, but gets super engaged in the bright colors of nintendo.

It works, wish she would play more hard core games, but hey, I'm just thankful she doesn't shame me for my games.

PC hooked up to a monitor and TV simultaneously.

Monitor for typing and normal activity
TV for watching stuff, lazy net browsing from the couch, or dual-screening so my gf can watch shows while I do something else.
>>
>>336020504
I've never seen pc output to a TV that didn't look like blurry shit.

Even if the TV is 1080p, the output doesn't format right and parts of your desktop/game are cut off

This is some shit bait right here. No one is EVER going to care if you have a monitor. Hell, normies most likely wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between a monitor and a tv. Unless it was a crt monitor.

Monitors usually have better input response. Also tvs don't usually support full rgb color space.

If you actually care about gameplay there is no other choice than a 144hz monitor with max 1ms latency
>>
>>336022292
Why wouldn't that be advertised as a TV set?

TVs are big and don't need as high a resolution because you sit further from them. If you want monitor quality at 40+ inches, prepare to pay out the asshole.
>>
Why get a tv that has okay speakers and okay display?

Get a monitor with a quality monitor and some quality speakers to compliment it.

TVs are designed to make video footage look good.
Monitors are designed to present the pixels as accurately as possible.
TVs generally have terrible input lag and blur the image.
Monitors generally avoid this (or at least aim to).

If you're Joe Shmo and you see a $500 TV that's larger than a $500 monitor you may assume the TV is the better choice, especially if the monitor doesn't have speakers.
Teenagers in particular often make this mistake.
And TVs often times lie about their refresh rate.
That all being said, I'm sure you can find a good TV for gaming, you just have to do your research.

tl,dr stay away from TVs unless you know your shit, a monitor will generally be better.
>>
im the only one who find playing in a Big TV really distracting?
>>
You know how /g/ always calls you dumb autistic retards for buying headsets that are both headphones and mics? Well, it's the same deal here: packages of multiple things (say, a monitor and speakers) together will always be worse quality than buying them individually.

TVs for "cinematic experiences", PS4 goes fine here

smallish monitors, 22-26inch, for fast paced skill based or multiplayer games

either or for every other genre, I sit way more at my 23 inch dual monitor set up than my htpc and ps4 set up on my tv

>>336023436
yeah, girls HATE monitors.
I once brought these two brazillian twins home to my place and they saw I had a DESKTOP COMPUTER and they just gasped and started laughing uncontrolably.
They then took a selfie with me and my computer for instagram with the caption "this dude from the 70s :O"
I tried to reason with them, explaining how a monitor is actually good but they couldn't get over how I was using a PC in 2015.
They then started making baby noises and taunting me for being a child until I went to bed.
They were gone in the morning but two big stinky turds were left on my living room floor.
I threw away that fucking monitor IMMEDIATELY and switched to a good old fashioned socially acceptable working class christian television.
It's just not worth it, monitors are the fedoras of appliances.
>>
>>336023641
Televisions are cheaper than equivalently sized IPS monitors, and significantly so, without the ghosting artifacts.

The colors are absolute garbage, however, and the designers are banking on the fact that you will view it at a greater distance than you would a monitor, minimizing the fatiguing effect of the flickering that the low-quality power supply causes.
>>
>>336023775
What are you using for the movies?
>>
>>336020504
Monitors-
PROS: Generally much easier to read text on, designed to be used much closer to your face.
CONS: Tend to be smaller, harder to see things from further away.
TVs-
PROS: You probably already own one, and if not, you can get a good used CRT for under $30.
CONS: Large and bulky.

TVs are best if your sitting further away from the screen, monitors are better when your sitting closer to them. It's much easier to find a good cheap TV then it is a monitor.

(I'm assuming you mean CRTs mostly when referring to TVs, because who has the money for a flatscreen?)
>>
>>336023965
Monitors went way down in price in recent years, do you have an example of a price gap?
>>
>>336023982
Emby: it's like Netflix for your own media. It's capable of streaming your shit to anything with a web browser or requisite app, but to be honest I mostly just use it as a nice skin for my downloade movies and TV shows.
>>
>>336024017
>(I'm assuming you mean CRTs mostly when referring to TVs, because who has the money for a flatscreen?)
You think we're still in 2005 or something?
>>
>>336023962
Kek, fair play, but I was responding to the guy who said nobody would even see it. Imagine a girl walking into a rancid mancave that's lit up till the fucking walls with 'Razer' greenlight LEDs, while the water hydraulics are pumping like an oilrig to keep up with the immense heat from your NVIDIA TITAN GX SLI x8 while eight interconnected monitors stapled like an autistic /g/ pyramid all blind her eyes with an anime loli background.
>>
TVs are for video games and entertainment.

Monitors are for memes.
>>
>>336024132
Huh, sounds cool.
>>
>>336024195
I hate revealing how poor I am by mistake, let me guess, everyone has one now?
>>
>>336024330
1. girls LOVE LEDs.
2. girls generally have no problem with anime or loli.
It's not 2004 anymore buddy, women of today are far more open about this stuff.
In fact Dolly ran a poll and 60% of girls play otome games.
She's probably more of a weeb than you are.
>>
>>336024017
Kek who doesn't have a fucking flatscreen, I bought a Samsung 32 inch for 300 yuropoors three or four years ago
>>
>>336024127
Television:
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889354950

Monitor:
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001971

You will notice they are compared by size. Any monitors in that form factor at 1080p (as opposed to 2K) are even more expensive, as they were made with a now-outdated manufacturing process.
>>
>>336024414
Yes. No one produces CRTs anymore and flat screens dramatically dropped in prices in ~2010.
Then again I don't know where you live so it might sound odd to you.
>>
>>336024445

Mate I wouldn't take /v/'s dating advice if I were an eunuch
>>
>>336020504
Based from my experience.
monitor:
Pro: Can watch lewd stuff no problem
Cons: People not mirin what you watching or doing when vidya

TV:
Pro: You see people mirin your vidya/pc skills
Cons: Everybody can see what you're doing so you limit doing some lewd and crazy shit.
.

Is this a subtle joke thread?

You can't play video games using a television, it wasn't intended for that purpose. It's like thinking you could run some modern game at max settings on a toaster just because you can watch a video of that game being played at max settings in full screen on YouTube.
>>
simple.

Monitors - Gaming(any genre/console) and web

Big TV - Movies and series

i find really hard to play games in a TV.
>>
>>336020504
Neither, if you give a fuck you'd be using a projector.

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. The monitor is WQHD so it's expectable that it costs a fuckton more. And I'm browsing through Newegg's monitors and I'm seeing some that are in the same price range as the TV (without the sale).
