A lot of people liked it. Many want it back. It's all on perspective. Sure the vocal minority hated it, even I had my gripes but, I know for dsmn sure that I still had fun with it.

Cash in copy paste "sequel" aka reskin of BF2. If you bought BF2 or maybe even the addons for it, them releasing a "new" but same looking game at full price so soon was an insult. Imagine how great it could have been with graphics improvements and some of Bad Company's destruction tech! But EA have DICE delivering Battlefields on the tick tock schedule, rushing every game out of the door prematurely.

As far as PC is concerned the switch to consoles was when they irreversibly gave up on the old formula. We're never going to get "real" Battlefield back. It died with Bad Company.

I didn't play anything from the Battlefield series until this game, as I was deep into Mechwarrior at the time and the walkers were awesome.
It was_fun_, and I haven't played another Battlefield game since.
