If we're talking real money? Around 50-70 bucks the last time I checked. In terms of gold, you're going to have to pay around 200k-300k, though both gold and real dosh prices depend on whether you play through the CMs yourself or allow them to "pilot" your account.
Personally, I'd say (provided you aren't shit at the game) you should try out doing the CMs. I thought I could never complete them because of all the rigorous requirements set for people trying to get into them, but at one point you'll find a competent group and with said group you'll be able to do half the CMs, if not more, and from there be able to link at least some progress to the 8/8 achievement hungry CM recruiting fuckers.

If you want to be even close to getting gold, everyone in your group is going to need BiS gear (not just the shit you get from you raids, because it all scales down to item level 630) which has the best stats for your class/spec. Then you're going to preferably need to get the BiS classes for the dungeon, like blood death knight + resto druid so you can actually survive doing the massive pulls needed to finish the CM dungeon in time, and finally you're going to need your dps to not be shit because if they're doing lackluster damage, you're never going to finish it in time.
It's maybe not as hard as most think, but it's far from being as easy as you claim.
