Am I the only one who hates atb? Its slow, boring, tries to give the illusion of interactivity but fails, and was made obsolete with turn based RPGs and action RPGs like sword of mana.
I legitametely couldn't bear ff after 3 because I just don't enjoy atb. That's why I prefer DQ.
Only game I pushed through it with was chrono trigger, which I still never beat.

Idk, I like to set the speed to the highest value and on active, most regular enemies drain my resources and boss fights can get pretty tense

Action RPGs are the natural extension of ATB. Old JRPGs compromised for tech limitations.

If devs want turn based now they just use turn based, like Legend of Heroes or Atelier, and if they want action they do action, like Final Fantasy XV.

That being said Setsuna is using ATB, so there ya go.

FFX, Trails, Atelier, that LOTR FFX reskin. Grandia has a system that's sort of a halfway point between that and ATB, but unlike ATB it actually uses the time aspect meaningfully instead of being a turn-based system with a timer slapped on.

Every time anyone's tried to mix those two, it's turned into a disaster.

It's a turn based SRPG card game with some MGS rules. That means the moves you can make are based on the cards you have, played on a grid like map where line of sight and stealth mattered (getting seen makes the game send more soldiers into the map every turn).

The reason this shit works is because the government has no idea how technology works. So long as the paperwork is in order and you pay the fines you'll get the patent. Although now a days they are getting better.

Oh, you're right then. It has boktai cards, policenauts cards, zoe cards, etc. Mostly metal gear cards though, from all of it, even the 2d games (yes including the gameboy ones).
