My previous rig lasted 9 years with one graphics card upgrade and one ram upgrade. In both cases the upgrade cost less than $200.

DX12 'features' aren't actually that important.
The fact that lowers CPU overhead by such a massive degree even without using any of those 'features' is reason enough.
Of the features, I don't even expect some of them will ever really get mainstream use - like Explicit Multi-adapter - nVidia will never allow that shit in the mainstream.

Vulkan is already helping in a number of titles, similar to DX12.
The FOSS Radeon drivers can play games now and can play DX9 stuff FASTER than Windows (only foss radeon driver, need winecsmt+galliumnine)
Proprietary AMD drivers are better than they used to be
nVidia FOSS drivers are getting there
nVidia proprietary drivers are still great like always.
Something like 1500 titles for steam linux/steamos now.
You don't HAVE to use Windows, but if you are going to use it, you might as well use 10 for the performance.

Theres no reason to buy a $1000 PC and not a $400 PS4 too other than being a stubborn fanboy. PC gaming is good for playing multiplats at their maximum performance. You shouldnt be playing on PC if youre not playing every game at max settings. And if you can afford a $1000 PC a PS4 shouldnt be a big deal.
