It's okay. Translation is awful. Make sure to play on Hard as Normal is too easy.
Devolve a Digimon to gain potential and new abilities. Evolve it to gain more power. Keep doing that until you have the final form version with the best abilities from all elementals.
The biggest surprise was spending 12 hours of grinding a single mission where enemies give an abnormal amount of XP. Getting the best of the best Digimon, then fighting the exact same Digimon a couple missions later. Had I not spent over half a day on pure leveling, I would have been wrecked.
I regret spending money on it.

I agree to this. /v/ was promoting the hell out of it when it was $59.99. The moment it fell to $35, nobody even discussed it anymore.
It's very mediocre.
It's a shitty SMT/persona game. Unless you really like digimon a lot I wouldn't recommend it. I feel like the game is mostly catered towards players under 12 years old.

Looks like persona gameplay, and i have never ever managed to finish a persona game.
It's a good game, but it feels like a handheld game (probably because it is).
Particularly combat is shallow as fuck and area design is copy pasted to fuck. If it had more diverse areas and they made combat a bit better it'd have been a great game.
The OST is complete ass though, lower music volume as soon as you can.

So I booted up my vita and installed the update from last month. How are the Burst Modes and Chaosmon? Are they useful online or is it just more disappointing shit like Omegamon was?

Chaosmon isn't split stat like Omegamon.
His focus is primarily strength then speed next.
His 2 uniques suck though.
The best thing to come out of the update is Shinegreymon BM and Beelzemon BM.

I'll go check them out though. I was hoping Mirage Gaogamon BM would be good, really liked the design

MirageGaogamon... pretty sure he sucks. Reduced him to farm duties. I think his unique was to increase Int? Kinda forgot but it doesn't suit him at all.

It's pretty good. i've been playing ti a fair bit these past few days since I got it. Story is uninteresting and the translation while grammatically fine is incredibly cringe-inducing at times

Some of the bosses on hard do require piercing attacks but that's only a few of them. It's more about buff and status effect management than anything.

I thought the translation was fine. Aside from Nokia overusing shit like "Totes adorbz" and them mistranslating "bakemono" as "Bakemon" it was fine. Suedo's dialogue in particular was really well done.

No story is shit, side quests have you visit last locales constantly and are rehashed a lot.
Areas are small and have only like 2-4 match up formations so rinse repeat after 2 fights.
Digimon are indistinguishable from one another beyond a typically shit core ability.
It's grindy in that instead of fusing to continue getting stronger in persona you de-evolve and regrind the same digi.
It was my biggest disappointment of the year.

There are quite a few sidequest only dungeons actually....and if you think digimon are "indistinguishable aside from one ability" you were playing on normal and didn't look at stats and passives. I think the game just wasn't for you champ.
