Anyways, I think it would be nice to have dating mechanics, akin to the harvest moon series, but maybe it would have to make some changes to the neighbor rotation system.

I agree with this. AC had a pretty good inventory, can't think of any way to improve it.

The dialogue in the last game was pretty shit.
Maybe give animals some unique dialogue or situations between them and other unique villagers.
Try to be forgiving to people who can't be available at certain hours to access certain parts of the game.
Make events less frequent, more interesting.
Give players the ability to leave their town open to certain friends (not like the dream world, where you couldn't bring anything back, and the music's weird).

Bring back the square section based town map.
Put secrets in the game that provide the excitement you got when you
found there was a whole NES game inside the GCN animal crossing.
Bring back Resetti.
Allow players to choose skin color.
Allow mayors more options to customize their town. There's no reason why I can't make an
actual stone path using my touch pad as a planning tool.
Just some ideas off the top of my head.

You are constantly limited by the inventory space, I thought it was way too small. I'm not asking for unlimited space because inventory management is part of the game, but it gets dumb when you have to use letter slot to store more items.

Yeah I do agree with that.
I think all tools should have their own specific equip slots, so that they never have to take up normal inventory space. Those were probably the most annoying slot hogs.

A lot of people use patterns to decorate their town, and some people with a lot of different patterns would need to create extra characters just to hold all of them.

You're making your own?
Since you're doing that, one thing to do would be to give more depth to things that you can do in animal crossing.
Making a lot of social features will help too. Since you're making it for PC probably, you can add a more multiplayer focused game.
A weird thought came to my head for something like this.
What if you had a game (like a card game) that would add
a more competitive level to the game?
How about your character can go to a computer to look at an in game website that is actually a guide to how to play the game for people who forget certain stuff?
Making it more convenient than just alt-tabbing to wikipedia would be tough though.

Make getting bells not boring and grindy.
Expand the game and the world so there's more than 30 minutes worth of things to do in a day.
Give villagers a LOT more dialogue. It's been like 5 games and characters still start repeating themselves after just a few days.
Make more customization options. I wanna see actual path systems, rotating town objects, relocating houses, zones people can and can't move in to, etc.
Create way deeper villager interactions like dating.
Stop punishing me for not playing the game for a long time.

Ok then. Here's the general concept I had in mind. It's a bit different from AC though.

Imagine Animal Crossing, same vibe, same comfiness, similar artsyle so
>fishing, catching bugs, looking for plants, fossils, gems

Except:
>instead of a village, you are in a huge forest
>instead of a mayor, you're a wandering camper
>instead of animal villagers, you're completely alone
>instead of decorating your house and running errands, you explore the forest
>you can meet other travelers like you and talk wit them, but they will leave after a while
>sell/buy/trade stuff, go on adventures together with other campers

>set up your tent when you want to save
>you can choose where to unmount it and bring it with you or leave it
>if you don't bring it with you, you have to go back there to save or you can build another one and save on the spot
>set up camp fires to keep wilid life
>build traps to protect your tent
>find and explore hills, lakes, caves, beaches, mountain tops, etc.

I also compiled a more detailed design document but that might be too long to post.

Sounds too lonely to be honest. One of the most comfy parts of Animal Crossing is the comforting feeling a familiarity. You know your neighbors, you know your town, you know the store clerks. What you're describing honestly sounds like Minecraft, which is a pretty lonely feeling game, even if you're by villagers or even other players.

I haven't come up with any real objective, the only thing that came to mind was simply exploring the map and finding new areas, landmarks and weird stuff. So it would be kind of aimless wandering looking for interesting stuff.

I was thinking quite the opposite. Instead of having a big number of characters with a limited set of personalities, have just a handful of characters with unique personalities and back story. Since you'd rarely run into them you wouldn't get bored of them as quickly.

-Ability to ask for errands like in the first game so you can load up on things to do instead of just running around hoping someone gives you shit, and you can chat when you want to chat

-More places to "work" like Brewster's Cafe in NL.

-Better balancing of the Island / Town Ordinances because while it was nice to get a ton of money for ordinances (which you basically had to fund entirely yourself), it made it pointless to try to run errands, or fish or catch bugs for money. Either make the townies actually fucking help or make it not cost as much.

-More dialog options for locked-in NPCs like the Able Sisters, Copper, etc. It's a fucking travesty how much they neutered Blathers, and it's retarded that you can't actually have a conversation with Isabelle or Digby. Give them all characters arcs like the Blathers and Brewster stuff from Wild World.

-Pick where Animals are allowed to move in so Biff doesn't fuck your shit by moving into the center of your town park

-Localization like the GCN game. Yes this means giving Treehouse more freedom. But the characters were way more memorable then and had more variety of things to say, even if they had the same kind of archetypes. The new character types are ok, they just need more stuff to say.

-Might be too much to ask, but some HHD functionality in mainline would be nice. I hate that someone asks me to bring them a dumbfuck kids table or something and they replace their awesome, unique-to-each-character home with a bunch of retarded shit I've given them.

-KK goes bankrupt and has to fucking play in the cafe or at the train tracks again instead of being a sellout

Having control over things in NL was nice but it's tough to balance how much control you should have over your town, since a lot of the appeal is shaping the town how you want to. Maybe you should have the option to not be a Mayor as well.
