It's the reason why I found MOH to be as spooky in terms of atmosphere as RE1/2. While I could play it alone just fine in the dark, I would usually have to save and take a pause between missions, play a bit of Spyro or Crash or whatever to elevate the mood a bit.
I wish more ww2 games went for that darker atmosphere.
