What does /v/ think of this game?
I never played any Arkham game but I heard this one is similar but not as good. I heard Spider-Man 2 is absolutely awful so I never got it. Gonna try this out though.

Just going off of reviews, the general consensus seems to be that ASM1 is good but not great and ASM2 is bad.

It's pretty meh, even for a Spider-Man game. It's comparable to playing an open world version of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, it has the same floaty Beenox feel. It's pretty run of the mill desu, which is dissapointing.

The combat system tries too hard to be like the one from Arkham games but fails because of how shallow it feels. Now, in Batman games, while characters actually pretty fast and jump from one enemy to another, you can feel every blow thanks to the fluid animation and how great it's connected to the actual gameplay. I mean, you could easily turn off all the hints and interface off and still get all the cues and info you need just with the movement of your enemies. TASM has nothing of sorts and animation is just terrible and unnactural. Spider-Man needs something completely different. His acrobatic abilities aren't incorporated at all. For example, Web of Shadows actually gives you a ton of options that lets you use both Spidey's strength, agility, speed, webs and ability to stick on the walls.
But hey, at least navigating through the city was a bit fun. And story was not so bad. Didn't finish TASM2, though, it was too boring.

The only Spider-Man game I played was pic related. Even then, it was just a demo from a PS1 demo disc. Swinging around was REALLY fun and the game in general was fun from just going off the demo.
How does ASM compare?
It's okay. I honestly wouldn't mind replaying the second one of them if I could be arsed tracking down a torrent of it or maybe even giving in and playing the first one again. But for now I'm going through a different Spider-Man game.

Or Ultimate Spiderman on PC. You can play as Venom in that. Make sure you use a controller

Oh man I remember the PS1 games. Honestly it doesn't really compare since ASM is Open World like most of the recent ones. Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time compares more to the PS1 games.

game supposedly has moonswinging so it's probably a little lame to show off.
But Spider-man doesn't really have too many bad games; It might be a good installment for the series, I haven't played it yet.

i really enjoyed this game but id say its pretty average maybe even below average. i really found it boring how they tried so hard to copy arkham combat. it feels so seamless in smooth in batman but in this it doesn't feel right at all. alot of people knock the moon swinging but i really didnt mind it. thought the camera looked great zoomed in on you as you dived through the air, while the sound of the wind rushing by was really cool. also i unironically enjoyed collecting all 700 comic books for the sake of just peaceful swinging around.
Im such a huge Spiderfag that it pains me to see all these mediocre games being pushed out. Will we ever see a new spiderman game thats just absolutely terrific?

Hopefully they can get it somewhat right with the next inevitable movie game since that can at least piggyback a little on the rest of the MCU for some additional flavor.
