Dark Souls takes clear inspiration from concepts featured in older Zelda games, such as the lock on melee combat of OoT. However, DaS expands on these concepts and take them in completely different directions. Consider the jump from ALttP to OoT. That's comparable to OoT to DaS. Zelda, the series, has stagnated far too long. Every game uses OoT's gameplay as a base where as other Nintendo franchises constantly change their gameplay, such as Metroid and Mario.
