>2002 PS2 game made with 1/1000th of the budget runs at 60 frames per second

>2016 PS4 ultra mega giga remake of the previous game runs at 30 frames per second

Explain me this shit /v/
>>
>>335913668
Because 30 fps are enough.
What needs to be pushed are resolution and graphics.

Cry me a river, the ps4 is winning, so I can't hear you crying.
>>
>>335913668
Even at 30 FPS the remake is a better game than the original.

This. The original is highly overrated and average at best. The true gems that put R&C on the map were Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked.

Yeah, idunno everyone I knew hated it. Probably because they got rid of the exploring aspect. And the atmosphere was nothing special.

But I like that they tried to change focus, rather than attempt going above and beyond 3, which they probably weren't capable at the time.

Also, the fucking Scorpion Flail was so cool. I'm baffled that it hasn't been recycled for one of the games yet.

I do hate that they neutered Siege mode in multiplayer, though.
>>

Wasn't the Ryno in Deadlocked a satellite cannon? Man I loved Deadlocked...I hope they remake it or provide a sequel.
>>

Harbinger.

And yes despite the name it is considered a Ryno type weapon.
>>
>>335917287

The music was still excellent and the commentators and overall setting added a nice new twist.

The co-op mode is GOAT.
>>
>>335917287
Playing the reboot, I almost freaked out seeing Juanita and Dallas in that one scene.

Shit man, I really hope we see a focus on something like Deadlocked. Commentators and all.

Random ass theory, I bet that convict at the end of the reboot works for Thugs-4-Less. I'm sure the next game will continue to reuse shit from 2 and onward, and I'm honestly fine with that.

I can't seem to find any real information on the new one as far as mechanics and shit go. One of my favorite things about the later games was upgrading your armor and weapons, is that back? What about ship customization?
>>
>>335918382
>upgrading armor
No, no armor upgrades
>ship customization
Nope
>weapons
Of course they upgrade like the past from using them and it has an expanded version of the rareitanium upgrade grid from Enter the Nexus.
>>
>>335918382
Weapons upgrade from level 1 to 5, then you buy an Omega version in challenge mode to take it to level 10. There are mods to each weapon in the same style as Into the Nexus (that hexagonal grid thing) and raritanium unlocks each hexagon.

No armor upgrades, you just get one armour (though you can wear like 4 different colours in the extras menu, need a certain amount of gold bolts). No ship customization either, but again you can change the colour the same way as the armour.
>>
>>335918157
Another reason to hate Qwark.
>>
>>335918194
Don't have much.

>>335918248

People who got Full Frontal Assault when it was new got a free code for it on PS3, I believe.

Plays fine, I guess, but there's transparency issues all over the place and the cutscenes are riddled with glitches. 1 example;

>>335918382

the remake is okey, but the story, characters, and music are all weaker

I'm convinced that the feedback on Deadlocked was so negative among fans that they won't touch anything from that particular game again, which is a shame because I liked it a lot.

The raritanium system is back for this game, like Into the Nexus.

No mods.

That last fucking level with Dallas and Juanita losing it was fucking hysterical. Really great writing in that game. I mean I read some reviews at the time which called it inferior to the first 3 and gameplay wise they're somewhat right but I still had a blast with it.

The PS3 port though, I mean Jesus fucking Christ.
>>
>>335918839
You just unlock all of them, there are certain parts of the grid that, if you unlock all the hexagons around them, you get a special upgrade. Like for example the Combustor weapon can fire 5 shots at once.
>>
>>335919187
too be fair the weapons from the first game were really shitty
too many gloves, no locking system, blaster was like a fucking mess
GC and Deadlocked have objectively the best weapons

like everything "next-gen", the game has to suffer to allow for shiny graphics.

>>
>>335917909
Ratchet and Clank 1?
Gameplay is kind of chunky but overall is solid and has a nice, retro tier difficulty curve.

Ratchet and Clank 2 and 3 aged like fucking Egyptian honey
>>
>>335914342
Crack in Time may as well be the last real Ratchet game that wasn't an escort title (like QFB, ITN and A4O)

nothing will top it. they seriously could've ended the series right there and i would have been more than satisfied.
>>
Why haven't weapon mods like in Deadlocked return? If I remember correctly it kind of did in ACiT but it wasnt as grand as Deadlocked. They should make enemies have weaknesses in the next game.
>>
>>335920017
This statement gets thrown around too much

Ratchet 1 plays fine
>>
Has anyone played the Remasters on Vita?

Just wondering how they held up on that. PS3 at least plays fine, it's just some visuals and cutscenes that messed up.
>>
>>335919827
Especially sad when one considers that the PS2 was by far the weakest console of it's gen, not counting Dreamcast, by far. The Xbox was twice as powerful as the PS2, and the GC nearly as much too. And here is the PS4, the most powerful of this gen, roughly 50% more powerful and yet it cannot maintain a high framerate on it's exclusive titles. I don't know how Halo5 on the Xbone runs better then PS4 games at 50% the power. Or god forbid the WiiU managing to run nearly all it's games at a high frame rate, and it's a generation back.

This fucking gen.

Halo 5's arsenal of weapons don't fill the entire screen with goofy projectiles or induce effects on every enemy onscreen like R&C does.

there are reasons for the cap. the fact is that the game can't look good and still run at 60fps. and the games that do usually cost a lot more to make
>>
>>335920135
I only say that because not having a good strafe or persistent reticule makes it control really awkwardly compared to other shooters people might be used to.

Pretty sure all in-house Nintendo games have been running at 60 fps since Gamecube. I could be wrong and forgetting a few, but I know most of them do. Even some of their N64 games run at 60 fps. Specifically F-Zero X, which the developers specifically stated they sacrificed graphics to maintain that since they knew it was important for a racing game.

I mean, maybe an action platformer doesn't need those frames as much, but it just sucks since it was the status quo for R&C back in the day.

they run like ass, look like ass and have major bugs but is overall playable.

I wouldn't play them as your first playthroughs of the game though because they'd probably leave a bad impression
>>
So after reading through this thread let me get a few things sraight:

>only one armor suit
>no ship upgrades
>weapons don't change appearance when they level up

It all that is true then I'm honestly on the fence about playing it. In my opinion those were the best additions of the sequels.
>>
>>335920913
Also most of the weapons are future shit
>>
>>335920135
Ratchet 1 enemies were pretty bad though, they just either ran at you to hit you, or shot from afar.

Haven't played the remake, but admittedly it looks like they've managed them around strafing, like when shooting at one enemy the other will run off to the side to shoot you from there. Looks cool.
>>
>>335920968
>future shit

>>
>>335913962
>Framerate should be as consistent as possible and should never interfere with the game. However, a drop in framerate is interestingly seen by some players as a reward for creating or forcing a complex setup in which a lot of things must happen on the screen at once. As in, “Damn! Did you see that? That was crazy!”

this is a sign they were talking to real R&C fans cuz i felt the same way. when the framerate chugged in older insomniac games it was almost always because of how much shit was exploding/flying all over the screen and the slowdown made those huge explosive moments more dramatic.

i've even felt this in other games tbqh
>>
>>335920913
there's only one suit and but you can change its color through gold bolts, same goes for the ship color.

Weapons do change appearance when they hit level 5 like all other games but because there's no level up screen you'd never notice.

The only really bad thing about the game is reused weapons.
There are 14 weapons in the game not counting the bouncer, only 2 of them are totally new original weapons, 2 of them are remade RC1 weapons (which is fine), and the other 10 are weapons reused from tools of destruction. Including the Ryno.
It's fucking ridiculous.
>>

I'm as much of a PC elitist as the next guy. 60fps all the way. However if your game can look good and be a STABLE 30fps we don't have much of a problem. I just finished Ratchet and Clank yesterday. Would I have preferred it to be 60fps? Yes. Did it ruin my experience for being a solid 30 with barely any dips? No.

>>335921114

Secondly, making the PS4 run the game at 60fps whilst looking that amazing could start a house fire.
Finally, it's better than the original and a game doesn't have to be running at more than 30fps to be good (unless we're speaking abou PC)

Yes.

I guess they wanna justify it by saying "The original had no Arena!"
>>
>>335922693
That's just bullshit.

>>335922201
Does it work the same way? i.e. a giant open area where you find crystals and turn them in for different shit?
>>
>>335917909
The whole Pixar-level graphics thing was just shitposting.
The closest we've got to Pixar-tier graphics is maybe Paragon.
Hell, Overwatch is closer to Pixar graphics than R&C.
>>
>>335922950
It's bit different you fly around with a jetpack collecting things and there a refueling stations placed around the area you also fight big mini boss creatures
>>
>>335913668
The budget was most likely bigger for the first game. That's when Sony actually liked the sales of Insomniac games. The remake was sold for $40 and Sony only does that for their budget titles.

Pretty much.

Replace crystals with brains.

>that, pixar.

Buddy get your eyes checked, overwatch is closer, but in game looks nowhere as good as the cutscene gifs.

^This

Nobody except /v/ autists cares about 60fps

He was so underwhelming, that I didn't even care. He was a really shallow villain to begin with.

Nefarious is cool, though. I like that they're using him before he becomes a robot.
>>
>>335913775
I just gotta ask, does spending most of your free time circle jerking to Sony make up for not having anything to play on it?
>>
>>335913668
Games run at variable framerates, soemthing you should expect on both PC and consoles, but can be overcome sometimes by powering through with a PC.

This isn't a new concept, and a game is never unplayable or broken if it runs at a less than desirable framerate.

The only time you should take issue is when it runs aspects of gameplay, such as response time or faster fights, a good example is the pre-patch Zone of the Ender HD collection.

Good point, Paragon is better than Pixar quality.

His organic design is a lot better than in 3. Makes sense, since it's for more than just a comic book cutscene.

Although I feel like they got rid of the nemesis-aspect between him and Qwark.
>>
>>335913775
Sony shoves a dildo up your ass and you still applaud them.

Kek
>>
>>335924103
As someone who enjoys a dildo up the ass every once in a while, you should probably use something more uncomfortable when you shitpost.

Not that guy though.
>>
Because there is no point to it.

Only autists care about this shit. Are you autistic?

Anyone else not really care for nefarious in this game?

He wasn't really involved in the plot very much and felt out of nowhere as a final boss
>>
>>335925616
Nigga i don't even have the game, I just read it when scrolling down the front page.
>>
>>335925953
I suppose the movie was meant to fill in the bits where he was there. Because otherwise he did come out of pretty much nowhere.
>>
>>335920062
The custom weapons in crack are why i personally dont enjoy it as much as thr others even tools. They should have made a bunch more guns and stuff considering it was the end of the trilogy and to the secret of the lobaxes. Hell even the reskinned ones from the museum would have been fine just to have more options
