So apparently this game is absolutely godly, hard as fuck to find, etc. Well it's out on the eshop now, so given the reputation /v/ has for this game, and how apparently the sequel takes everything this game did and ruined it, I was pretty fucking hype to see it announced yesterday.

And yes, the characters feel like they are straight out of a "basic character building" book without any modifications. No, they expect you to be playing the game at your leisure and fun. All the hints you ever need (for affinity sidequests) are given in the affinity chart. The rest are fetch quests which is either pick up a blue glowey orb HERE or pick up a blue glowey orb THERE. Maybe fight this unique monster.

Xenoblade Chronicles almost never made it to the western market without people practically begging for it. It's the result of Project Rainfall which brought two other JRPGs along with it. Even in an unknown market (at the time) this game was so well anticipated and desired. This game is a fantastic addition to the JRPG genre. It's perhaps the best iteration in the "Xeno" series, at least one of the top 3. The story is better told and more cohesive than anything of the Xenosaga series, XCX and frankly many JRPGs that make their way stateside. You aren't being memed, you just apparently do not enjoy exploring extremely beautiful, enchanting even, new worlds and you don't enjoy the Japanese style (Takahashi) of storytelling. It seems you're a bit more action oriented. You have poor taste for not realizing its visual and auditory value, though.

I can understand you might not find the act of seeing Shulk jog on the screen an enjoyable activity. You see a goal in the distance and it feels like you need to slog your way over there. But there are a couple points of contention:
1. There is far more going on in any single screen or map than just "Shulk is running." There are enemies, secrets, orbs, landmarks, music and of course the stunning visuals of the world that is ubiquitously heralded about this game that you seem to ignore. Turn the camera! Look around! Explore a little!
2. You're never, ever meant to get from the entrance of one map to the exist in under 60 seconds. The areas are very, very big with lots and lots of things inside. And something this game and its developers took care attention about, you have a fast-travel system that lets you revisit all your named locations and landmarks whenever you want once you get there! Once you have been to that spot, and you know that's where you want to go in the future, there's no need to walk all the way back. The way you phrase your dislike for the movement system sounds like you want all those fast-travel points unlocked for you already.
3. Okay, so maybe you want a "Sprint" button, or a car or something. The thing is, you actually are moving very quickly and the proximity of fast-travel locations is so near that the idea is practically redundant. Even still! There are gems you can equip called "Quick Step" There are 6 levels of improvement, per gem that will increase your run speed both in and outside of battle. And they stack. You can run EXTREMELY fast in this game.
