EO is the best series on the 3DS.
It has a demo, you can try it.
But yes it's fun.
You can make a little party of adventurers and write stories about them in your head while you play.
so I'm playing the demo, am I correct in assuming that there's very little story and it's entirely focused on dungeons? Not a bad thing, just wondering

Story is very basic. You can reset skills at the cost of some levels so you aren't screwed if you pick a skill you don't like. More fragile classes go in the back like archer and medic, your dancer should go in the front row.
Is the game dependent on grinding, though?

You can grind to make things easier, but it's not really necessary as long as you don't run from every battle you run into while mapping out the floors. EOIV's at that point in a game series where it's easier than its previous entries but primarily because its gameplay is more polished than its predecessors which had worse job balancing.

Seriously all your money should be onto health items to keep you adventuring till you hit full packs.
Also if you are just 1 battle away from a shortcut but low sp / health and no items, use the thread.
Game is about survival instinct, if you die all the time you'll need to rethink everything, game is meant to punish mistakes hard, because you are suppose to plan ahead before entering new territory like a real adventurer.

Only thing I know is that Reaper and katana bunnies are great for EXP due to what they do exactly.
Reaper has a skill that increases enemy encounter rate and EXP earned for a number of steps.
Maosurao has an ability to chain encounters together.

That worries me. They can try to push using multiple teams, but unless grinding is incredibly quick and effortless it's a waste of time. Give me some kind of Combat Study like from EOIII back, or just automatically give benched guild members some portion of experience. No dlc premium tea, either. Though I have cfw so I'll be getting all the DLC free of charge this time.
