For a fighter, Guilty Gear has probably the most coherent story content out there next to Blazblue. Of course, the competition for having a good story in fighters is like asking which kindergartener made the best dragonball fanfic, but it isn't Tekken or DoA level retarded. Blazblue has more story content considering the amount of VN style snipits it goes through with each character
KoF 2002 is a dream match up considering the amount of dead bosses it has. KoF as a series does have story, but holy hell is it convoluted and repeatedly backpedals to get rid of/keep in characters

Guilty Gear has a story yes. Though you might want to read up a summary for the earlier games that aren't on Steam so you know what's going on.

Played the beta. It's a generic near future class based FPS with GitS characters shoehorned into it. Not worth it in my opinion.
Worse thing about it is that you can have multiples of the same character on the same team so you usually end up with a full team of Majors running around. Also the other team also plays as Section 9 they just get reskined from your point of view to look like generic mooks.
