just finished my first playthrough, they seemed to do nothing except throwing some gas around while i was stabbing them with a spear

Basilisks in DaS were annoying as fuck if you fell through in the depths, would usually be instant curse and purge stones meant a lot of backtracking.
Necromancers, pretty annoying with constantly reviving skeles, especially during chariot boss.

You could always buy them from the sin guy in the belltower, I think in a later patch them also made them available from the undead female merchant because everyone was getting fucked over by curse.
