Since there's already so many DaS threads I'll just hijack this one for a sec. I was wanting to go back to DaS2, I own the base game with no DLC, should I purchase the DLC, and just play that, or does SotFS improve enough to warrant a purchase.

To be fair, leveling up at a bonfire in DS3 wouldn't make much sense since the player is supposed to be an unkindled. Having a fire keeper for leveling makes more sense.
