The worst part about Bioware's writing is that it lacks any real grit in regards to sexuality or gender. Gay characters are just there, and no one ever faces any strife or hardship for being gay, black, female, etc. Everyone's just like "Yeah, that's cool. Now go murder people." The excellence behind having a minority character is having them triumph over adversity. Having them do nothing but exist and repeatedly tell you that they're gay does literally nothing except annoy you.

It is not that gay characters are bad, but rather there are game developers that put gay characters into games just to appear progressive and push a narrative of inclusion. The end result is terribly written characters that are just arbitrary and forced.

Agreed, the biggest issue with all those characters wasn't that they are gay but that they exist because they are gay. There's nothing remotely interesting about them other than the fact they are gay and need to remind you every single conversation.
Outside of the dwarf, who I don't count since he was in the second game. The only other character I liked was Blackwall and that was because I did his character arc last and was honestly expecting another shit show in terms of writing . Was pleasantly surprised with a rather different story from what I had originally expected after playing the game for 60+ hours.
