Vordt is one of those "hug his ass" bosses. Just stay behind him all the time and you shouldn't get much damage, if any. He's really one of the easiest bosses in the game, I had more trouble with the tutorial boss.
If it's your first Souls game it might help to take some time to study how the gameplay works, learn how to roll properly, familiarize yourself with invincibility frames etc... Also going for a magic build if you're having trouble with Vordt is probably a bad idea, restart with a knight or something.

Indeed. Dark infusion gives more damage than Crystal infusion, even at 40 int and no Faith. It's even better than Crystal Magic Weapon.
All spells are useless except the arrow spells.
Great Magic Soul arrow goes for 15 FP and does 350~ dmg for me last time I tried.
Soul Spear goes for 50 FP and does 380~ dmg.
It's like everyone that tested playing a mage just went for a soul arrow-only cheese build and put their stamp of approval on the entire archetype. I tried doing a spellsword hybrid but had a shit time going through the entire game.
I just ended up getting my dark claymore, running around killing everything with that and completely wasting my int until I got the Moonlight Greatsword. And I'm only using that because of its cool attacks. I bet my Dark Claymore still would outdamage it if I upgraded it to +10.

Yes. And I learned the hard way after listening to those edgelords because I missed out on Cornyx's armor and Cuculus' weapon. Cuculus drops both. This means I'll eventually kill my pyro master.
Never listen to the edgelords who say don't summon or you're a scrub.
Because AI is unpredictable and boss HP inflates when you summon accordingly. Its as much as a challenge to keep them alive as they provide the boss with a different target to lock on.
Try summoning Eygon for Crystal Sage and he can die to that boss if you just watch him fight.
But best of all by asking them for help sometimes they actually reward you.
Back in the day making Solaire not die to the centipede demon was a nightmare. It was certainly a tougher challenge fighting it together than it was solo.

If you summon and the no animations bug with phantoms sliding around it becomes cake to fight any enemies because their animations are locked too. It becomes god mode almost.

The Dungeon I cleared out easy as fuck, the profaned capital was a joke.
But god damn, the Long sword just does not keep up as far as damage needs go in that area, I had to switch to the greatsword, and it's doing a lot better.

Pyromancy was unironically OP as all living fuck in DS1, DS2 fixed it in terms of making it something you had to spec into rather than "lel get one or two slots of ATT, dupe a couple boss souls and then have access to 2 out of 4 of the best spells in the entire game". I'm not a huge fan of how high some of the requirements are though, who the FUCK thought that Warmth justifies such a high faith requirement.

Black Flame and Great Combustion were some of the absolute best PVP spells in the entire game, Great Chaos Fireball was incredibly good for PVE, and ATT was so easy to come by in DS1 that there was essentially no reason to run them unless you're using some sort of meme build. The way DS2 gave it scaling made it so that it required some sort of investment to be powerful.
