Be honest here. Could the new doom have even worked if it was truer to the originals? Actually think about it. It has been a long time since this games release. Did you people actually want Doom to play exactly like Doom only in a modern game engine?

As long as the levels were all new, otherwise I'd just play Doom you know, yes. I'd prefer that to a fucking shit game and who wouldn't?

So the game is fucked then
>>335768206
WELL... That says all you need to know about this game.

This, OP ponders a great comment about games that end up seeing a similar fate. The FPS genre is constantly growing, furthermore, the 'grind to unlock this and that' and 'EXCLUSIVE CONTENT FOR 4.99" tropes have done better and worst. Doom in the 90's was fucking brilliant; 90's Doom and its formula today - not so much. Its outdated and kids want something familiar (CoD, CS;GO).
For me the new Doom is lacking, it feels like it tried to pay homage to id and the original but didn't

I don't get it. Todd Howard worked on Daggerfall and Morrowind. How did he end up casualizing all those series?
>>335769817
Cause that's what the people want.

I wonder when /v/ will actually praise a game. The first week is all about shitposting and whining, then years later, the same game becomes a post modern gem, everyone loves it and talks about how great it wad compared to the new installment.
You guys can't enjoy shit before degrading it to the lowest level.

>being here so long that you can see it happen.
Your supposed to be here in your teens and then move on.
>>335766653
Yes.
Basically what they made was Serious Sam 3 with Halo multiplayer that looks worse, plays worse and cost 1,000,000 times as much to produce.

>Could the new doom have even worked if it was truer to the originals?
Yes, it could have. But then it wouldn't sell to the Halo kiddies.
>>335766653
>could it have worked
yeah interceptor did that for ROTT remake (it had a bunch of other problems though)

Obviously it has to be different to the original to some degree, but you have to keep what made it good. You can't slow it down so it plays like CoD or Halo that's just ridiculous.

DOOM is really a product of another time and place. Games have changed and things other than gameplay have taken precedence in game development. But that begs the question of whether it was even worth it to resurrect the franchise into such an age. Only reason to really do so is to get more people to buy your generic shooter #59674. Especially since none of the original guys are even working on it.
