What would you think of a remake of Fallout 1 & 2 in the same style as 3 and New Vegas?

I would love nothing more then that!!
>>
no thanks

Not if Bethesda is making it. They have no respect or care for the lore. It'll just be a Borderlands game because they confuse "Holy shit everything is fucked take this missile launcher because there are horrific mutants trying to kill starving humans" with "WOO NO JOB NO WIFE NO RESPONSIBILITIES TIME TO GRAB ME MUH /FATMAN/ AND GO TO TOWN. ATOM BOMB, BABY!"

Go look at the Wasteland Workshop trailer if you think I'm kidding. It's not Fallout at all.

Yes. This.
>>
>>335751917
I wish they'd just hand fallout off to Obsidian and take a cut of the profits instead of turning it into hollow, skyrim-lite, casual bait
>>
>>335751468
It wouldn't work, it would end up a toony pile of shit like new vegas. Don't get me wrong, nv was a fun game, but it didn't have anywhere near the kind of feel as 1 or 2.
>>
>>335752408
This

If obsidian was given fallout 4 and the modding kit and asked to remake 1 & 2 I would buy them
>>
How about a demake of New Vegas instead?
>>
>>335753028
XDDDD
>>
Maybe then New Vegas fags will actually play them
>>
>>335751917
Many people on here claim that they butcher fallout lore but Tim Cain himself says that fallout 3 stayed true to the lore.
>>
>>335753287
Fallout 4 didn't though. Fallout 3 is in a wonderful spot of better than average.
>>
>>335753141
lol
>>
>>335753287
It's a mix of not caring about the lore and being completely oblivious to the themes and the tone of the previous games. It's why there are Fat Mans despite the games being clearly anti-nuclear weapons
>>
>>335753141
Is it bad that I've played and beaten the original fallouts but still absolutely love new vegas. I enjoyed 1 and 2 but not to the same extent.
>>
Eh. It'd be really interesting if it used a hub-system, retaining the much larger setting of Fo1/2, but also the individual locales. Would be difficult to recapture the degree of choice, of course. Some of Fo2's more outrageous stuff could stand to be toned down.
>>
>>335753998
You saying a game where you can play a 16 year old and beat the entire game exclusively punching people in the dick including children, taking drugs and alcohol, become a porn star, and commit slavery and genocide couldn't be released?
>>
>>335753894
I've played 1.2.3.4 and NV
And 3/NV are my favorites
>>
>>335753998
That would be pretty great tbqh. I liked that aspect of Lonesome Road in New Vegas where you can go visit the places outside of the Mojave that you chose to nuke and a whole game with that scope would be fucking fantastic.
>>
>>335754256
I'm not against turn based gameplay, but I enjoy Nv's gameplay, it's more fast paced, still has rpg mechanics, and allows the degree of choice that 1 and 2 had. It's the best of all wrapped together.
>>
>>335754213
I mostly just meant the tedious pop-culture references. You could probably get away with that other stuff if you faded to black or presented it via textual interface a la some of FNV's stuff.
>>
>>335754418
I wouldn't mind playing a 16 year old again, made me feel like a massive badass when I played the game at that age.

I enjoyed a few of the pop culture references, but they are pretty outdated(I would still like to have stuff like the bridge of death there for a wild wasteland like ability)
>>
>>335754564
Eh, unless age makes a mechanical difference (which would be great if it did, but would be difficult to implement satisfactorily), not much of a reason to include it. IIRC, it didn't affect anything in the original games.
>>
I wouldn't. In fact, I'd much rather have a "demake" of NV in the style of the isometric games.
>>
>>335751468
Pretty gud, as long as nobody fucks up the lore.

Also, on the same engine as Mad Max. It's fucking wizardtech.
>>
>>335754752
I think it affected a few minor dialogues, but I still want it for the sake of rp, the chosen one is already an underdog in a land he knows almost nothing about, making him a teenager helps to reinforce it. It also shows just how desperate arroyo is if a 16 year old is there best hope.
>>
>>335754418
>You could probably get away with that other stuff if you faded to black or presented it via textual interface a la some of FNV's stuff.
Probably, New Vegas had some pretty dark/weird shit in it too (FISTO, killing Benny during sex, the vaults had some pretty fucked up stuff in the computers, all of Randal Clarke's logs). And you could do all the pop culture stuff with a variation on the Wild Wasteland trait in NV.

>>335754752
That could be interesting. Younger characters get lower starting stats/skills but get more experience and opportunities to upgrade their SPECIAL, maybe add some physical penalties on older characters. Probably wouldn't be worth the effort though
>>
>>335755091
Yeah, that's the problem with RPG design, especially vidya. Mechanical complexity and open-endedness drastically limits the length and narrative complexity of any one piece of content. It's why shit like Age of Decadence is so impressive.
>>
>>335755091
I just want to be a 16 year old punching people in the dick. Best highschool bully simulator ever.
>>
>>335752897
A man can dream, anon.
>>
>>335755345
I think the issues really begin to arise when you start implementing complex mechanics that don't really have a narrative justification or meaning (e.g. Fallout 4's base building), it's cool and all but it's not going to have the same effect as more simple stuff that messes better with the story(e.g. Carrying Zulf at the end of Bastion)
>>
>>335755823
That's not to say that mechanically complex games can't be good. But if you're forcing overly complicated mechanics into a story driven game like fallout, you're going to be cutting other stuff to make room/time which is why FO4 is so dependent on radiant quests.
>>
>>335755823
It's a chicken-egg question. Mechanics should inform the narrative imo, but it's really hard to craft a cohesive product when you add more and more mechanics. Conditional dialogue becomes an absolute bitch the more conditions you add, obviously.
>>
>>335751468
>in the same style as 3 and New Vegas?

Waste of time and resources. If they remake these games it makes far more sense to do it in a similar style to the originals. The FPS ones are already a proven successful formula and they are better off making newer games in that style.
>>
>>335756348
I wouldn't mind seeing the locations from those games in a 3d environment though. I'm surprised no one has modded in any of these areas to be honest.
>>
Never played the originals. I played the third game once. ONCE. It was fun but nothing memorable. Felt like it was all on the surface with little to no substance.

Then I played New Vegas. It was so much better than 3. There was more to it, more substance.

I guess what I'm saying is...even someone with no knowledge of the previous games can tell that obsidian had a much better grasp of what the game should be.
>>
>>335756710
There's some group of modders remaking Fallout 1 in the New Vegas engine. It has the same travel system as FO1/2, but the areas you go to are all fully 3D and play as you'd expect.
>>
>>335756803
I'm not defending fallout 3, when you get an ip you better treat it right. While NV had an engine to use they put effort in the one thing that bethesda didn't: writing and content.

Fallout 3 feels like a retread of 1 and 2 mixed together

>Live in a vault
>water problems
>super mutants (who are dumb now because of course they are)
>being able to skip most of the early quests
>enclave (who came the hell out of nowhere)
>Morals that were pure black and white
>Lawl funny town made up of children
>Lawl funny repair woman
>Wow look at all this atmosphere to hide the lack of effort in world design (new vegas had desert but the buildings in the desert were well designed)
>Nukes everywhere because thats funny
>dogmeat because buyers eat up dogs
>>
>>335757068
Well I have something to look forward to. I will still miss my crotch choice in aim mode though.
