Chronological order would be really confusing to play first time, so play in order of release. I guess MG and MG2 are optional, but MG2 is referenced quite a bit in MGS, and MG adds some cool info to some details of MGSV.

For whatever purpose, that is the way that the creators chose to tell the story, and thus it is the most correct way. Imagine if you were back when MGS came out and hooked on it then, you would have had to play them in release order obviously like everyone else.

The game just uses everything it has so efficiently. Each section feels so different and unique. Each boss fight has to be handled a different way. The flow of the game is perfect, there's hectic moments and calm, focused moments. It never gets really stale, it's a constant thrill ride from start to finish.
None of the other games really pull this off as well, besides bringing so much more to the table. MGS3 got damn close though.

MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, MGS: Peace Walker, and then MGSV. Part of MGS's deal is full circle and how Big Boss and Solid Snake reflect each other, but due to release order it's written to reflect Big Boss off of Snake, so stick with release date for mainline.
MG and MG2 afterwards if you're interested in the originals, but I will say MG is pretty dated. MG2 is still worth trying out and has a lot of advancement from the first game.
MGS:PO if you want more pre-MGS4 gameplay and don't mind the 20FPS limit you'll get even in emulation. It's better than Peace Walker in almost every facet. PO+ is for multiplayer and such, so you can skip that.
Ghost Babel if you liked MG2 enough that you would like to see if the series progressed that way with its next title instead of going the 3D route with MGS. It's non-canon but worth it.
Revengeance should only be played after MGS2 and MGS4, It has no sneaking at all except for optional insta-kills if you're not good at combat. Overall a decent CUHRAYZEE title and a big reason everyone suck's Platinum's dick nowadays.
I can't say anything on the AC!D series since I haven't played the two games. They're non-canon and take a bit of a radical deviation from the mainline in a way that makes them less impactful than even Ghost Babel.
The only thing that would be left is Metal Gear Solid Mobile but most people don't even know that exists. I hear it's decent enough and if you grab it then it fits alright between MGS1 and MGS2, but it's still non-canon so don't worry about it.

I naturally played them 2, 3, 1, 4 and loved all of them (2 and 3 the most) I'd suggest release order though as that just makes the most sense for the progression of the mechanics.

There were lots of very slow parts in 2, 4, and V. And I feel like 1 more or less forced you to use specific strategies whereas the later games gave you more options, but you could more or less go through the whole game with just the Tranq gun, or whatever worked.
